This is an advanced course in Canadian income taxation that builds on basic taxation concepts covered in undergraduate income tax courses. The objective of the course is to help students apply the income tax rules to minimize the income tax burden for Canadian taxpayers earning business and property income in Canada and foreign jurisdictions. This course also covers some of the ethical issues encountered by income tax practitioners as well as current research in taxation and ethics. In addition to further developing income tax concepts, this course helps students to broaden their professional skills. Students are required to identify tax solutions for several business scenarios through the use of case questions. Students are also required to consult several income tax sources including the Income Tax Act, CRA publications, and Income Tax Treaties. Credit Value (FCE) 0.50 Campus-Scarborough. The following positions for Sessional Instructional Assistants are available in the Department of Management Scarborough for Summer academic session.

Note: All positions involve completion of all course grading.
CPA with income tax related work experience (2-3 years) is preferred. Preference is given to candidates who recently obtained their CPA designation or recently passed the CFE and understands the new CPA process. Candidate should have solid tax background. A CPA designation and prior experience marking cases and rubrics.

Previous experience is the more relevant criterion than the need to acquire experience in respect of this posted position.
Prepare marking rubrics, marking and providing detailed comments (both oral and written) to students on case assignments, midterm and final exams, and recording the grades. Provide detailed feedback of student’s performance and learning strategies to instructor.
