Session Assistant - Interventional Radiology

Full-Time | Weekdays | Days | Weill Cornell

At NewYork-Presbyterian, Session Assistants are more than administrative support - you're the reassuring presence patients and families rely on during critical moments. You’ll guide, inform, and coordinate care behind the scenes, helping ensure every visit is seamless, informed, and compassionate. Success in this role requires experience navigating insurance requirements and securing prior authorizations for procedures, helping prevent delays in patient care and treatment.

What You’ll Do:

  • Coordinate complex, multi-specialty appointments, procedures, and surgeries

  • Verify insurance benefits and obtain complex prior authorizations/pre-procedure approvals for Interventional Radiology services, partnering with payers, providers, and patients to ensure timely authorization and minimize care delays

  • Track, monitor, and follow up on pending authorizations, appeals, and payer requests to support timely patient access to care

  • Serve as a front-line resource—welcoming patients, answering questions, and easing concerns

  • Manage scheduling workflows, inbox communications, and provider calendars

  • Collect and maintain accurate patient demographic, insurance, and medical record information

  • Collaborate with internal teams and referring providers to ensure timely, coordinated care

  • Support patients with forms, portal enrollment, and procedure preparation instructions

  • Provide cross-coverage with Patient Registrars during lunch breaks and/or absences to greet all patients and visitors upon arrival

Schedule & Location:

This is a full-time, day shift position based in the Interventional Radiology department at Weill Cornell, located at 525 East 68th Street, New York, NY.

  • Weekday coverage only — no weekends

  • 8-hour shifts between 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM

Preferred Criteria

  • Prior experience obtaining insurance authorizations and pre-procedure approvals in a hospital, radiology, specialty practice, or healthcare setting strongly preferred

  • Knowledge of health insurance benefits/requirements

  • Knowledge of ICD Coding

  • College degree

  • Energetic, approachable individual with a desire to put patients first.

Required Criteria

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • One year of clerical experience

  • Effective communication, along with phone and computer skills
