Job Description
The Pharmacy Tech Retail Trainee works in a supervised, hands-on learning environment to support retail pharmacy operations. This role assists pharmacists and technicians with prescription preparation, customer interactions, inventory management, and pharmacy services while completing required training and progressing toward licensure.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma/GED required
- Maryland resident
- Individuals eligible for the Maryland Service Year Program (generally ages 18–24)
- Experience: None required
- Licensure/Certification:
- Must obtain Pharmacy Technician licensure in the state of Maryland within 6 months of hire
- Skills & Abilities:
- Basic computer and keyboarding skills (Microsoft Office, data entry)
- Ability to learn and apply technical pharmacy knowledge
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and comply with regulations
- Willingness to complete required training and coursework
What You’ll Do
- Complete required training programs and coursework while progressing through the trainee program
- Assist with prescription preparation, including data entry, labeling, and medication handling
- Support pharmacists in dispensing medications and interacting with patients
- Assist customers with prescription drop-off, pick-up, and payment transactions
- Help manage inventory, including ordering, receiving, and stocking medications
- Support pharmacy programs such as curbside pickup, specialty pharmacy, and meds-to-beds
- Maintain compliance with all pharmacy regulations and organizational policies

- The pace can be fast, especially during busy pharmacy hours
- You’ll work closely with pharmacists and technicians, often taking direction throughout the shift
- There is accountability to obtain licensure within a set timeframe, which requires commitment outside of work hours
