Job Description

The Care Caller provides regular outreach to program participants through scheduled phone calls, offering social support, wellness check-ins, and connection to resources. Each call typically lasts about 10–15 minutes and focuses on building rapport and supporting overall well-being.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or GED
  • Maryland resident
  • Individuals eligible for the Maryland Service Year Program (generally ages 18–24)
  • Experience: No prior experience required
  • Licensure/Certification: None required
  • Skills & Abilities:
    • Strong communication skills with a warm, positive tone
    • Ability to build rapport and actively listen
    • Patient, friendly, and non-judgmental approach
    • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
    • Sound judgment and discretion when interacting with others

What You’ll Do

  • Make outbound calls to assigned participants at least once per week
  • Spend approximately 10–15 minutes per call providing support and conversation
  • Conduct wellness checks and offer emotional/social support
  • Document each interaction using a post-call reporting form
  • Maintain a consistent call schedule (up to ~20 conversations per day)

What the Job is Really Like

  • Much of your day is spent on the phone having back-to-back conversations
  • Some participants are very talkative, while others may be quiet or difficult to engage
  • You may hear about personal challenges, including loneliness or health concerns
  • Calls can be emotionally rewarding, but also occasionally draining
  • Consistency and reliability are critical—participants depend on your calls

Work Environment & Demands

  • Primarily sedentary, desk-based work with frequent phone use
  • Requires strong focus and attention to detail during conversations
  • Frequent verbal communication; moderate written documentation
  • Minimal physical demands, but sustained mental engagement is required

  • Participants feel heard, supported, and valued
  • Calls are completed consistently and documented accurately
  • Strong rapport is built with participants over time
  • Issues or concerns are appropriately escalated when needed
  • You maintain professionalism, empathy, and consistency in every interaction
