Job Description

Job purpose:

Working as part of a Service Area a Service Technician shall mainly undertake technical work and support the Lead Technician to ensure maximum availability of the wind farm. Could be required to carry out work in various wind farms within South Africa. The work will include general and specialized work on Wind Turbines and associated equipment, together with the local teams in the service region.

Functions:

  • Autonomously carry out troubleshooting, fault-finding and repairs of wind turbines and associated equipment.
  • Carry out complex repair-processes and exchanges in collaboration with the local technical support.
  • Fill in job cards, reports and checklists in order to completely inform supervision, management and Clients.
  • Check inventory of spare parts stock and be responsible for material on site, including booking usage and ensuring replacement.
  • Guarantee that tasks are undertaken with high quality and efficiently.
  • Undertaking tasks in the most economical way for the Company.
  • Responsible for safekeeping, care and control of materials, tools and property of the Company.
  • Carry out tasks in accordance with Company manuals and regulations.
  • Carry out standby duties according to the site roster.
  • Required to work overtime when required
  • Carry out necessary scheduled and reactive maintenance tasks related to the wind turbines, electrical balance of plant (eBOP) components and other associated site equipment
  • Supervising and ensuring that all works carried out by subcontractors and suppliers are done to acceptable Nordex Energy standards and procedures.
  • Carry out root cause analysis, problem-solving and repairs to electrical and mechanical components
  • Identify and report existing and anticipated problems with wind farm equipment, which includes inspections, etc
  • Compile and review O&M reports and recommend action plans to the Lead Technician/ Line Manager
  • Reviews relevant material (manuals, blueprints, schematics) to determine tasks, tools, equipment, and parts needed to maintain the system
  • Ensures a safe working environment, meets safety standards, and adheres to regulatory compliance requirements. Report any incidents and accidents to supervision as soon as practicable.
  • Assist with daily reports and all other reporting requirements as delegated by the Lead Technician/ Line Manager.
  • Assist in monitoring compliance with all operational regulations and associated permits, including all applicable safety, health, and environmental regulations.
  • Assists with scheduling and tracking maintenance tasks
  • Assists with general administrative tasks, as required
  • Required to accept various HSE legal appointments and to perform relevant duties
  • Any other duties, as assigned by (Site Lead tech / line manager position), in line with the role
  • Required to carry out lift service maintenance

Education and Job Experience:

  • N6 Electrical/Mechanical Certificate with Trade test or
  • National Diploma in Mechatronics, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or
  • National N Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  • Driving Licence – Minimum Code B.
  • ECSA registration to be obtained within 3 years of post-job acceptance
  • ECSA registration as candidate / professional technician would be an advantage
  • Knowledge of the NORDEX specific programs, products and services will be an advantage.
  • Basic HSE knowledge and ability to develop further in this area.
  • Used to deal with IT-Tools.
  • A basic understanding of electrical and mechanical systems such as transformers, motors, drives and control equipment
  • Able to read and understand electrical, mechanical and hydraulic schematics, drawings and prints
  • Able to read and interpret procedural manuals and documents related to safety regulations, operation and maintenance
  • Knowledge of testing and troubleshooting equipment such as multimeters, voltage testers, etc.
  • Able to analyse data, investigate and report on trends
  • An understanding of general SCADA systems would be advantageous
  • Strong computer literacy skills with a good grasp of Microsoft Office packages including Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel
  • An understating of PLC troubleshooting and maintenance would be advantageous
  • Experience with wind turbines an advantage
  • Working knowledge of wind turbine SCADA systems a strong advantage
