Mission & History
Our mission is to better sustain, coordinate, and improve local planning, development, and community services that address the needs of low-income and working-class residents and small businesses of South Los Angeles. Our work is rooted in a philosophy of coalition-building and collaboration with residents and other stakeholders to jointly create a lasting impact in the community.
We focus on three program areas in conjunction with the development of affordable and permanent supportive housing:
- Workforce for Adults and Youth
- Housing and Support Services
- Entrepreneur and Small Business Services
Founded in January 2005 by neighborhood residents and community leaders, our goal is to strengthen the economic vitality of South Los Angeles and improve the quality of life for youth and the community. CRCD received its federal tax-exempt status as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation in December 2005. Fiscal sponsorship and operational support were generously provided by the Los Angeles Conservation Corps through July 2006.
Today, CRCD is committed to our mission and moving forward with a dedicated board of directors, advisory board, and staff. CRCD is funded by a combination of grants, earned income, and generous donations.
