Job Description

We are looking for an enthusiastic and inquisitive Service Engineer (Software Packaging) The Application Packager within the DAF division is responsible for professionally building, testing, and deploying application packages across the Windows environment using Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (SCCM/MECM) and Microsoft Intune. This role ensures the secure, reliable, and efficient delivery of software applications that support DAF’s business operations and technology initiatives. By collaborating closely with engineering, security, service desk, and business stakeholders, the Application Packager plays a critical role in maintaining a robust IT infrastructure that enables seamless user experiences and drives operational excellence at scale across 5,000+ devices.

Key Responsibilities –

  • Develop, build, test, and deploy Windows application packages using Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (SCCM/MECM) and Microsoft Intune.
  • Ensure packages meet quality, security, and reliability standards for deployment across a large Windows estate of 5,000+ devices.
  • Work closely with engineers, security teams, service desk, and business stakeholders to understand application requirements and deployment constraints.
  • Act as a liaison between technical teams and business units to ensure seamless application delivery.
  • Manage application deployment requests submitted through ServiceNow as Change Requests or Incidents.
  • Follow the Intake Checklist and provided installation instructions to ensure compliance and consistency in deployment processes.
  • Continuously professionalize and optimize the build, test, and deployment processes for application packaging.
  • Identify and implement automation opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce errors.
  • Ensure applications comply with organizational security policies and standards during packaging and deployment.
  • Collaborate with security teams to address vulnerabilities or compliance gaps in application packaging
  • Maintain clear and detailed documentation for application packages, deployment procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Ensure documentation is up-to-date and accessible to relevant teams.
  • Provide timely support and resolution for deployment-related issues.
  • Analyze incidents related to application packaging and deployment to prevent recurrence

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related fields.

Knowledge & Skills REQUIRED:

  • 5+ years of experience in application packaging and enterprise software deployment.
  • Hands-on with SCCM/MECM (applications, packages, collections, task sequences) and Intune (Win32/MDM)
  • Scripting: Strong PowerShell expertise (detection scripts, custom install/uninstall, log handling)
  • Application Packaging: Proficient with MSI, MSIX, MST, and common tools: Admin Studio, Advanced Installer, PSAppDeployToolkit, Orca
  • Application Readiness: Requirements discovery: dependencies (VC++ runtimes, .NET, Java), permissions, services, drivers, COM, Compatibility testing (Windows versions, User Account Control, multi-user environments, VDI), App migrations (App-V to MSIX, legacy RunAs to modern packaging, 32→64-bit).
  • Documentation: Proven documentation skills (packaging guides, deployment runbooks, rollback plans).
  • Base Knowledge: Solid grasp of Windows 10/11 internals (registry, file system, services, permissions, user context vs system context), Understanding of Azure AD/ on Prem. AD, Group Policy, and Endpoint Security baselines
