Job Description

Job Title

Service Engineer

RMR Service Sales Engineer (Warehousing Solutions – Australia and New Zealand)

Are you passionate about enhancing the logistics performance of major retailers' automated facilities in Australia and New Zealand? Do you have a deep understanding of customer needs and a talent for developing tailored technical solutions? If you excel at building stakeholder relationships, this is your opportunity to embark on a rewarding new challenge with our dynamic team.

Your Responsibilities

Vanderlande delivers comprehensive life-cycle services for customers' automated material handling systems. Revision, Modification, and Retrofit (RMR) projects are essential for maintaining optimal system performance and adapting to evolving customer requirements. As a Service Sales Engineer specializing in Warehousing Solutions, you will drive these initiatives by:

  • Customer Consultation and Analysis: Engaging with a diverse portfolio of clients to identify challenges, analyse system issues, and recommend innovative and practical solutions.
  • Solution Design and Presentation: Translating customer requests into conceptual layouts and technical proposals, collaborating with engineers (mechanical, electrical, controls, and process), software specialists, product experts, and supply centres to create compelling offers.
  • Pricing and Alignment: Preparing detailed pricing, cost estimates, and project plans while coordinating with internal stakeholders (e.g., Pricing, Procurement, Planning, and Engineering) to ensure feasibility and alignment.
  • Sales Strategy and Pursuit: Contributing to service sales with the contract managers, defining opportunity strategies that align with life cycle plans, and presenting solutions to secure commitments.
  • Project Handover and Implementation Support: Organizing successful project kick-offs with Service Project Managers, developing life-cycle plans, and occasionally managing or supervising RMR project implementations.
  • Team and Process Development: Supporting the professionalization of Service Sales Engineering in ANZ while working with the global team, sharing in-depth knowledge of Vanderlande equipment, and initiating continuous improvement actions for technical solutions.
  • Multi-Project Management: Handling multiple complex projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment, including developing and executing plans for implementation, testing, and deployment.

This role demands close collaboration with site teams, customers, and global experts to deliver value-added services that optimize warehouse automation for retail leaders. You will be supported by a large global organization of Service engineers based in the Netherlands and a strong local organization.

Your Qualifications and Skills

To succeed in this position, you should bring:

  • A technical bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in sales engineering, with a preference for brownfield projects (upgrades to existing systems).
  • Strong analytical skills to structure and solve logistical problems both practically and analytically.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, both verbal and written, in English.
  • An entrepreneurial mindset, with the ability to anticipate and mitigate project risks while addressing issues in real-world settings.
  • A collaborative approach, enthusiastic about working in multidisciplinary, international teams and sharing knowledge with colleagues.
  • A customer-centric focus ("service blood") and the persuasion skills to influence stakeholders effectively.
  • Proficiency in initiating continuous improvements related to technical solutions.
  • Experience developing and executing implementation, testing, and deployment plans.
  • Willingness to travel up to 5% internationally and 30% locally/interstate within Australia and New Zealand.

About Vanderlande

Vanderlande is a market-leading, global partner for future-proof logistic process automation in the warehousing, airports and parcel sectors. Its extensive portfolio of integrated solutions – innovative systems, intelligent software and life-cycle services – results in the realisation of fast, reliable and efficient automation technology.

The company focuses on the optimisation of its customers’ business processes and competitive positions. Through close cooperation, it strives for the improvement of their operational activities and the expansion of their logistical achievements.

Established in 1949, Vanderlande has more than 11,000 employees and a turnover of 2.3 billion euros.

Toyota Industries Corporation (TICO) acquired Vanderlande in 2017 to cement its global leading position within material handling. It aims to achieve this by increasing its presence in all integrated and automated projects, and capitalising on the synergies between the organisations and the added value they offer to the market.

TICO therefore launched the Toyota Automated Logistics Group (TALG), which consists of Toyota L&F, Bastian Solutions, Vanderlande and viastore. TALG is a global partner for integrated logistic process automation, with its group companies collaborating under the guiding principle: for every challenge, a reliable solution.

In May 2025, Vanderlande completed the acquisition of Siemens Logistics' operations outside the USA and in doing so welcomed more than 2,000 new employees. The acquisition supports the company’s strategic ambition to accelerate its growth in automated logistics, particularly strengthening its capacity to deliver baggage, cargo and digital airport solutions.
