Job Description

In a nutshell

As a Service Designer at Picnic, you’ll shape how millions of families experience grocery shopping, from planning their groceries and weekly meals to cooking and enjoying healthy, delicious food together. You’ll work hand in hand with Product Owners, Designers, UX Researchers, Data Analysts, Engineers, and Business stakeholders to design every step of the customer journey.

You’ll spend half your time running service design and research activities such as customer interviews, journey mapping, and usability testing. The other half you’ll focus on turning those insights into solutions that drive real customer impact. By bringing everyone at Picnic closer to our customers, you’ll help create innovations that make everyday life simpler, healthier, and more sustainable.

  • Service design: Own the end-to-end customer experience and build deep customer understanding
  • Testing & exploring: Develop, test, and refine new concepts that drive product and service initiatives
  • Collaboration: Work closely with designers and other teams to prototype and evaluate solutions every week
  • Share insights: Document research, present actionable insights to guide decision-making
  • Customer focus: Be the face of Picnic and engage with customers
  • Continuous improvement: Strive for continuous improvement to take our UX team to the next level

Your superpowers

  • MSc. degree in a relevant field, such as Industrial Design, Human Computer Interaction Design or Product Design
  • 0-4 years of experience as Service Designer
  • Conceptual-analytical skills: able to understand complex flows, connect business and technical perspectives, and translate data into clear insights
  • Ability to reason on high level about various topics, to quickly understand and discuss both business and technical concepts
  • Excellent communicator: You know how to facilitate workshops with anyone and know how to present service insights succinctly
  • Flexibility: Agile approach and ability to learn on the go
  • Creativity: Outside-the box thinking and passion for details
  • Affinity for or previous experience with digital design is a plus
  • Fluency in both Dutch and English. German and/or French are a plus

About Picnic Technologies

At Picnic, we’re revolutionizing the way people buy groceries. Our affordable and sustainable service is made possible by our passionate people, cutting-edge technology, efficient planning, and, of course, our fleet of iconic electric vehicles! It’s why our customer base is growing rapidly across the Netherlands, Germany, and France.

One of the things that makes Picnic different is that we handle almost everything in-house: forecasting, developing our first automated warehouse and new electric Picnic vehicles, internal and customer-facing applications—the list goes on. It gives us more freedom when it comes to trying out new and innovative ideas, which is something we do a lot!

We love to challenge ourselves and learn new things. Our teams have access to various meetups, language classes, ‘Lunch & Learn’ sessions, our very own Tech Academy, and tailored soft-skills training. Professional development is as important to us as the service we provide to our customers.

As a diverse team made up of over 80 nationalities, there are always plenty of activities to get involved with, whether you’re into sports, board games, charitable causes, dancing (at our legendary Picnic festival), or licorice tasting—yes, even that!

Our scale-up culture means you get to own your role and bring fresh ideas to the table. So, if you’re looking for an opportunity to make a real difference, get in touch—we’d love to hear from you.
