POSITION TITLE: Service Center Coordinator
DEPARTMENT: Service Extension
STATUS: Regular Full-Time/ Non-Exempt; Hourly
SUPERVISOR: Service Extension Director

GENERAL STATEMENT

SCOPE OF POSITION

The Service Center Coordinator is responsible for the overall operation and coordination of the South King County Service Center in partnership with the local Service Committee. This position oversees daily service delivery, social service programs, financial and administrative functions, volunteer management, community outreach, and seasonal programs. The coordinator ensures services are delivered in a professional, compassionate, and compliant manner consistent with Salvation Army policies, division standards, and funding requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Program & Operational Oversight

  • Provide day-to-day operational oversight of the Service Center
  • Manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and service demands in a fast-paced environment
  • Ensure compliance with Salvation Army policies, program guidelines, and division standards
  • Respond calmly and professionally to crisis situations
  • Attend staff, agency, and division meetings as required

Social Services & Client Support

  • Interview and assess clients in a respectful, client-centered, and non-judgmental manner
  • Determine eligibility and provide financial assistance in accordance with established guidelines
  • Maintain accurate and confidential client records and service documentation
  • Provide referrals to internal and external community resources
  • Respond to client calls, emails, and walk-in requests within established timeframes

Financial & Administrative Responsibilities

  • Perform daily banking functions, including deposits and voucher processing
  • Track budgets and provide financial stewardship for Salvation Army funds and donations
  • Record, inventory, and report all in-kind donations
  • Prepare required reports and documentation for supervisors, funders, and audits

Volunteer Coordination

  • Recruit, train, supervise, and support volunteers
  • Increase and sustain volunteer engagement throughout South King County
  • Provide leadership, guidance, scheduling, and recognition for volunteers

Community Relations & Outreach

  • Represent The Salvation Army at community meetings, events, and partner agencies which includes driving to various events
  • Coordinate and facilitate monthly Service Committee meetings
  • Promote Salvation Army programs through presentations, outreach efforts, and community partnerships

Seasonal & Special Programs

  • Coordinate and support seasonal and ongoing programs, including but not limited to:
    • Christmas Assistance & Distribution, including driving to various sites
    • Red Kettle Campaign
    • Summer Camp
    • Back-to-School Assistance
  • Support emergency preparedness planning, training, and coordination for the Service Center

Other Responsibilities

  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of Service Center objectives and mission

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of three years of experience in one or more of the following fields in community-based programs, volunteer management, nonprofit work, or social services

SOFTWARE-RELATED SKILLS

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including 365, Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams; Microsoft PowerPoint required
  • Graphic design skills. Ability to create basic outreach, informational, and marketing materials (flyers, signage, presentations)
  • Working knowledge of integrated database applications and ability to use new software programs with basic training.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment (computer, printer, scanner, multi-line phone system)
  • Experience with data entry, reporting systems, and tracking spreadsheets
  • Proficient typing skills (60 words per minute)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis
  • Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead
  • Ability to operate telephone
  • Ability to operate a desktop or laptop computer
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Ability to access and produce information from a computer

  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle

Additional Requirements

  • Pass a Motor Vehicle Records check in compliance with The Salvation Army’s policy
  • Must pass The Salvation Army ‘s in-house yearly driving test
  • Must possess a valid Washington State driver’s license
  • Must be 21 years of age to drive a Salvation Army vehicle.

Health Insurance: Low bi-weekly premiums for employee-only coverage, Kaiser HMO for those residing in a Kaiser service area, Anthem EPO/PPO is available for those residing outside a Kaiser service area. Voluntary +1 and +family coverage at additional cost. Delta Dental DHMO and DPPO dental insurance are offered.

Life and Voluntary Options: An employer-paid life insurance policy covers employees. Voluntary supplemental life, short-term and long-term disability plans are available.

Retirement Plans: Employer-funded Money Purchase Pension Plan (Defined Contribution Plan) 50% vested at five years eligible service time. Plus, an employee-funded voluntary 403(b) option.

Parental Leave: The benefit is 40 hours of Paid Leave for qualifying events.

Sick Leave: 12 days of Sick Leave annually accruing from day one, eligible for use after three months’ service time.

Paid Vacation:

Two weeks annually, accruing from day one, for non-exempt positions.
Four weeks annually, accruing from day one, for exempt positions.
Accrued vacation is eligible for use after six months’ service time.

Paid Holidays: 13 designated holidays + 1 floating holiday per year
