Job Description

The Mammography Services Associate is responsible for the maintenance and quality of patient care on a continuing basis for the Mammography department and throughout the organization.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
These duties and responsibilities described below represent the general tasks performed on a daily basis; other tasks may be assigned.
  • Copy images for check-out using PACS software.
  • While maintaining the confidentiality of patient records, research patient's radiology records through the Radiology Information System and the Hospital Information System. Utilize all aspects of the Radiology Information System accurately to manage the confidentiality of patients' records.
  • Research duplicate records and/or medical record numbers and alert the appropriate medical records personnel.
  • Verify correct identification is in patient's medical records and update records accordingly.
  • Create film records for new patients and update records for previous patients, including placing the patient's name, the date, and the medical record number on the film file record.
  • Track film records as they move to various work areas in the department; be able to locate, at all times, radiographic film files and reports for referring physicians and co-workers using the Radiology Information System.
  • File film jackets by the patient's medical record number to the correct shelf and row, tracking the record with the Radiology Information System.
  • Complete the appropriate paperwork to loan film records to patients, physicians, and other hospitals; be sure to verify the borrower's identification before releasing any medical records from the hospital.
  • Mail back outside films and record this information in the Radiology Information System.
  • Communicate equipment malfunctions and low inventory levels to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Gather any information needed by the Lead Technologist for FDA and MQSA documentation.
  • Provide service to patients, visitors, physicians, and other hospital staff in person, by phone, and by fax.
  • Assess the needs of patients and direct them to the appropriate department, providing quality care and service at all times.
  • Attend required hospital-wide orientations, meetings, and in-services.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to flexible work scheduling when necessary to ensure patient care.

Reports to: Operations Manager; may also be assigned work from the Radiologist or Administrative Director, Radiology

Minimum Required Education: High school diploma or equivalent
