Koniag IT Systems (KITS) is seeking a Server/ Cloud Operations Engineer with a minimum of 5 years of experience to support day-to-day operations, patching, and maintenance of a hybrid Windows/Linux and AWS cloud environment for a federal civilian customer. This is an excellent opportunity for a systems administrator looking to grow cloud operations experience while supporting an active enterprise modernization program.
The Server/ Cloud Operations Engineer will be responsible for supporting day-to-day administration, patching, and maintenance of enterprise server and cloud infrastructure, assisting with ongoing data center consolidation and cloud onboarding efforts, and responding to incidents in alignment with ITIL-aligned processes.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Perform routine administration of Windows Server and Linux systems, including patch management, account administration, and system health checks.
• Assist with provisioning, configuration, and monitoring of AWS cloud resources (EC2, EBS, VPC, IAM) under the direction of senior engineers.
• Support VMware virtual machine provisioning, snapshots, and resource allocation.
• Execute routine maintenance windows, including OS patching, firmware updates, and vulnerability remediation.
• Respond to Tier 1/2 incident tickets, perform initial triage, and escalate as needed per ITIL-aligned processes in ServiceNow.
• Assist with Active Directory account and group management, DNS record maintenance, and access requests.
• Support data migration activities associated with ongoing data center consolidation and cloud onboarding efforts.
• Maintain accurate configuration item (CI) records and system documentation in the customer's CMDB.
• Participate in an on-call rotation for after-hours support as needed.
Education and Experience:
Required:
• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or related field, or equivalent professional experience
• Minimum of 5 years of experience administering Windows Server and/or Linux systems
• Working knowledge of core AWS services (EC2, S3, VPC, IAM) or equivalent cloud platform experience
• Familiarity with VMware virtualization environments
Required Skills and Competencies:
• Basic scripting ability (PowerShell, Bash, or Python) for routine automation tasks
• Understanding of ITSM ticketing and change management processes
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established runbooks and procedures
• Ability to obtain Public Trust clearance
Desired Skills and Competencies:
• Experience working in a federal government IT environment
• Knowledge of compliance frameworks such as FedRAMP, FISMA, or NIST
• AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner or AWS Certified SysOps Administrator – Associate
• CompTIA Server+, Linux+, or Security+ certification
• Exposure to ServiceNow or similar ITSM platforms
