Position: Server Assistant
Reports to: Dining Room Manager / General Manager
Location: The Plaza, Coral Gables, FL

The Server Assistant is an essential member of the front-of-house team, supporting servers and the dining room to ensure every guest receives exceptional hospitality and seamless service. This position is responsible for maintaining the dining room, preparing tables, delivering support throughout service, and anticipating the needs of both guests and team members.
At MIKA, the Server Assistant contributes to creating memorable dining experiences by ensuring the restaurant is clean, organized, fully stocked, and operating efficiently while upholding the highest standards of hospitality.
Key Responsibilities
Dining Room Support
- Assist servers throughout service to ensure an exceptional guest experience.
- Deliver bread service, water service, and assist with food and beverage delivery as directed.
- Clear, reset, and prepare tables promptly according to MIKA's service standards.
- Refill water glasses and assist with guest requests throughout the meal.
- Remove used plates, glassware, and utensils in a timely and professional manner.
- Ensure tables are impeccably maintained throughout the dining experience.
Service Station Responsibilities
- Set up and stock all service stations before each shift.
- Polish and organize silverware, glassware, and service equipment.
- Replenish napkins, condiments, china, and other dining room supplies.
- Maintain coffee stations, water stations, and side stations in a clean and organized condition.
- Restock ice, linens, and other supplies as needed throughout service.
Opening & Closing Duties
- Complete all assigned opening and closing side work.
- Ensure dining room furniture, tables, chairs, and décor are clean and properly arranged.
- Sweep and maintain cleanliness throughout the dining room and service areas.
- Assist with polishing glassware, silverware, and flatware.
- Properly store and organize linens for pickup.
- Dispose of trash and recycling according to restaurant procedures.
- Leave service stations fully stocked and prepared for the following shift.
Hospitality & Teamwork
- Greet guests warmly whenever appropriate while maintaining a professional presence.
- Anticipate the needs of both guests and fellow team members.
- Communicate effectively with servers, bartenders, kitchen staff, and management.
- Maintain a sense of urgency while delivering attentive and gracious service.
- Follow all food safety, sanitation, and health department standards.
- Maintain MIKA's grooming and uniform standards at all times.
- Participate in daily pre-shift meetings and ongoing training.
Qualifications
- Previous restaurant experience preferred; fine dining experience is a plus.
- Passion for hospitality and guest service.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
- Flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Food Handler Certification as required by state and local regulations.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry trays, bus tubs, and service equipment up to 40 pounds.
- Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and perform repetitive movements throughout the shift.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced restaurant environment.
