We are looking for an IT/Cybersecurity student to join the Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) Team. Work term starts in September 2026 for a 12-month period in Calgary. As a CIP Compliance Co‑op Student, you will support the team in maintaining and enhancing ATCO’s compliance with Alberta Reliability Standards (ARS) and NERC CIP requirements. This role provides exposure to cybersecurity, regulatory compliance, audit processes, and operational technology (OT) environments.

Who you are: 

  • Must be enrolled in a co-op (or internship) program at a recognized Canadian university.

  • Currently enrolled in a degree program in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field.

  • Basic understanding or interest in cybersecurity and compliance concepts.

  • Familiarity with or interest in critical infrastructure or energy sector.

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

  • Analytical mindset with the ability to learn and apply new concepts quickly.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.

Nice to Have (Not Required)

  • Exposure to NERC CIP, ISO 27001, or NIST frameworks
  • Basic knowledge of networking, SCADA, or industrial systems
  • Experience with Excel, data tracking, or reporting tools

What You Get to Do:

  • Support the development and maintenance of CIP compliance documentation

  • Assist with evidence collection and organization for audits and regulatory submissions

  • Help track and maintain compliance activities, controls, and monitoring tasks

  • Support self-reports, mitigation plans, and issue tracking under guidance

  • Conduct basic compliance research on evolving AESO and NERC requirements

  • Assist in risk identification and documentation updates

  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives and documentation standardization

  • Support preparation of dashboards, KPIs, and reporting materials

  • Collaborate with team members across IT, OT, and engineering teams

  • Participate in audit readiness and continuous improvement activities
