Job Description

Company:

Qualcomm China

Job Area:

Engineering Group, Engineering Group > Systems Engineering

General Summary:

Sensors-based technology enables a wide range of applications including navigation, gaming, advanced user interfaces, multimedia, and AR/VR experiences. This role offers hands-on exposure to advanced sensor technologies used in smartphones, IoT devices, wearables, smart glasses, and other consumer electronics.

We are seeking a hands-on Android XR System / SW / Data Engineer to acquire comprehensive AR glass data sets for training and validating sensors-based feature and context-aware features for AR glass form factors.

Initial focus areas are:

  • Enable multi-device data collection across AR glasses and mobile and wearable devices.
  • Hands-on data collection, validation, and labeling of AR-glass-based data sets covering a person’s daily life, public and private transport, and dedicated targeted data collection campaigns. Management of crowdsourced data collection campaigns using AR, mobile and wearable form factors.
  • Work with both commercial and prototype hardware and evolving Android XR platforms.

The position spans the full product lifecycle—from research and development through validation and commercial deployment—and involves close collaboration with systems, software, and integration/test engineers within the QCT Sensors Technology group.

Job responsibilities include:

  • Further develop, validate, maintain, and monitor the Qualcomm Sensors Team data collection platform. The initial emphasis would be with AR glasses and sensors related use cases for them.
  • Support and manage global data collection campaigns involving Qualcomm staff, including hands‑on participation in field data collection using mobile, wearable devices and AR glasses.
  • Analyze, summarize, label, and generate metrics for datasets containing physical and virtual sensor streams, location data, and radio scans (Wi‑Fi, WWAN, BLE) across smartphones, laptops, wearables, AR/XR glasses, and IoT devices.
  • Create, validate, maintain, and document training, validation, and test datasets to support algorithm and feature development.
  • Collaborate with global, cross‑functional teams to support development and commercialization of sensor algorithms and features.

The position is technology-focused and involves participation in a broad range of sensors systems engineering activities within the Sensors Technologies group.

The role contains occasional travel, physical/sports activities, and handling of objects with significant weight.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent

  • Systems Engineering or related work experience.
  • Hands‑on professional experience with embedded systems in system integration, system design, or software development roles, preferably involving physical sensors, wireless radios, and location technologies.
  • Applied experience with digital signal processing, probability, and statistics for analysis of physical sensor, location, or radio data.
  • Strong programming skills in Python (version 3+), including professional experience using Pandas for data preprocessing, analysis, and summarization
  • Working knowledge of MATLAB for data analysis or algorithm development.
  • Experience creating, validating, maintaining, and documenting training, validation, and test datasets, including partial or full automation of workflows
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with clear written and verbal English
  • Highly organized and detail‑oriented, with the ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced, global, cross‑functional environment

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent

Experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Familiarity with MEMS‑based inertial, environmental, or physiological sensors, and experience with sensor characterization equipment
  • Understanding of wireless radios and location technologies (Bluetooth, WLAN/Wi‑Fi, GNSS, cellular); exposure to audio or camera sensors is a plus
  • Experience working with embedded or mobile platforms such as Linux Embedded, Android (Linux‑based), Wear OS, Android XR, iOS, or Windows
  • Proficiency with Git / GitHub and collaborative development workflows
  • Strong fundamentals in SQL and relational databases
  • Ability to work productively across Linux and Windows environments, including scripting or automation in Linux
  • Experience with one or more public cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Experience working with Microsoft Graph APIs and/or SharePoint APIs
