Job Description

Help us build the future and we’ll help you build a rewarding and purposeful career.

Our global network is made up of engineers, architects, designers, planners and environmental scientists all working towards the same goal.

Join a team that solves complex engineering challenges and delivers meaningful outcomes for clients and communities, and we'll provide you unlimited space to grow.

Who are we looking for?

Our NSW and ACT Architecture and Building Engineering business is seeking experienced Fire Protection Engineers, from Senior through to Technical Director level, to join our growing team and help deliver some of the region's most significant buildings and infrastructure projects. Working within a collaborative multi-disciplinary environment, you will lead the design and delivery of innovative wet and dry fire protection solutions while contributing to projects that shape communities across NSW and the ACT.

Both roles will provide technical leadership across the full project lifecycle, ensuring the successful delivery of high-quality fire protection engineering solutions for our clients. The positions will be centred on technical excellence, innovation, and project delivery, with opportunities to support client engagement, project management, and business development activities as part of a broader leadership role within the team.

These roles can be based out of any of our Sydney, Newcastle, Canberra or Wollongong based offices. GHD has 16 offices in the NSW and ACT region. While the above four are preferred please feel free to discuss further.

Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:

  • Leading project scope development, tender preparation, technical design and project delivery for a range of complex fire protection engineering projects.
  • Delivering wet and dry fire protection engineering solutions across a range of market sectors such as transport, health, education, industrial, energy, defense, data centers, aviation and hazardous materials facilities throughout Australia.
  • Developing and reviewing designs for active fire protection systems, ensuring compliance with relevant codes, standards and client requirements.
  • Collaborating with architects, engineers and multi-disciplinary project teams to deliver innovative, practical and high-quality solutions.
  • Managing project budgets, schedules and resources to achieve strong commercial outcomes while exceeding client expectations.
  • Building trusted client relationships through technical advisory, site visits, proposal development and business development activities.
  • Mentoring and developing junior engineers while contributing to technical excellence through design reviews and quality assurance activities.

What would you bring to the team?

  • Fire Protection Accreditation Scheme (FPAS) registration (Fire Systems Design Practioners) is a requirement for our Technical Director Role.
  • Our Senior Role is open to candidates working towards the FPAS registration in Fire System Design.
  • Degree qualified Engineer with 6-10+ years’ proven experience in the detailed design/ preparation of technical documentation in both wet and dry fire projects
  • While the roles will be predominately design and technically focused, a willingness to contribute to and lead business development activities backed by an active professional network.
  • Practical knowledge of relevant Australian Standards, the National Construction Code of Australia and codes of practice. Experience in the application of international standards (NFPA, FM Global for example) is favourable but not required.
  • Strong communication, a positive mindset and drive with a passion for creativity and personal development
  • Flexibility to work autonomously and in diverse teams in multiple regions including the mentoring and direction of junior staff.
