About the company
Our client is an AI-native mortgage technology company rebuilding loan origination from the ground up. Its platform already supports more than $85B in home loans, and a top-10 U.S. mortgage lender is on track to go live by the end of 2026. The company has raised $44M, including a recently closed $30M Series B, has approximately 80 employees, and is positioned to become profitable as its flagship customer launches.
The role and why it matters
This is a senior or staff-level platform engineering role for a hands-on software engineer who can treat infrastructure as a product. You will build the self-service systems, TypeScript libraries, deployment automation, and reliability foundations that let product engineers ship quickly and safely as the company scales.
What you'll do
• Own and evolve AWS infrastructure using Terraform and Pulumi across compute, networking, storage, security, and data services.
• Design and maintain internal developer tooling, TypeScript libraries, shared SDKs, code generation, command-line tools, and reusable frameworks.
• Build and optimize CI/CD pipelines in Buildkite and maintain per-pull-request ephemeral environments.
• Improve reliability through service-level objectives, error budgets, autoscaling, observability, and incident response.
• Solve performance and scale challenges across Aurora PostgreSQL, distributed services, and an AI-native mortgage platform.
• Partner with product engineers to make development, testing, and deployment fast, consistent, and safe.
• Document complex systems clearly and raise the technical standard across the engineering organization.
Requirements
What we're looking for
• Seven or more years of software engineering experience, including substantial platform, infrastructure, or backend work.
• Strong experience at a high-growth technology startup.
• Recent hands-on experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines and per-pull-request environments, ideally with Buildkite.
• Proficiency with TypeScript and Node.js, including the ability to navigate and make meaningful changes to a production codebase.
• Deep AWS experience across compute, networking, storage, security, and data services.
• Strong Terraform and/or Pulumi skills, including modules, workspaces, and CI-driven plan and apply workflows.
• Experience with service-level objectives, error budgets, incident response, and production observability.
• A track record of shipping production code, not solely administering infrastructure or coordinating other engineers.
• Strong written communication and the ability to document complex systems.
Bonus points
• Hands-on Buildkite optimization experience.
• Experience building internal platforms, developer tooling, shared SDKs, code generation, or frameworks.
• Experience with Datadog, CloudWatch, Sentry, distributed tracing, or comparable observability systems.
Benefits
Compensation and benefits
• $150K-$350K base salary, depending on seniority and experience. Senior-level compensation may reach $300K base, while staff-level compensation may reach $350K base.
• Competitive equity.
• Medical premiums covered at 100% for employees and their families, plus dental and vision coverage.
• 401(k), HSA and FSA options, and flexible time off.
• This role is not open to visa sponsorship or transfers. Candidates must already have unrestricted U.S. work authorization.
