Job Description

The role

The Core Systems team at Sharkmob is responsible for, among other things, the complex domain of rendering. This is an area where we are determined to improve both capacity and skill, and to that end we’re looking for an engineer with extensive experience – someone who will bite into the hardest challenges in levelling up the visual fidelity and performance of our game.

As an experienced Render Engineer in the Core Systems team you'll be able to help expand and redefine the team's responsibilities and scope, and set new standards for how our game looks and plays.

You thrive on sharing what you know. Whether it's explaining why a solution works, reviewing a colleague's approach, or spotting a teachable moment in a tricky bug - helping those around you grow as engineers comes naturally to you

Some examples of what we'll be doing:

  • Console development

  • Rendering features, such as modern lighting techniques, that support our game’s goals for visual fidelity

  • GPU, CPU and memory optimization, including improved concurrency

  • Diagnosing, fixing and preventing GPU and CPU crashes in render systems

Desired experience and skills - you have:

  • Excellent mastery of C++ and shader programming

  • Contributed significantly throughout the full development cycle, from pre-production to live, for at least one game on PC and console

  • Great understanding of how modern rendering pipelines and techniques using DirectX 12/Vulkan work

  • In-depth understanding of CPU and GPU architecture

  • Exceptional skill in designing, implementing, improving upon, and working in a feature-rich game engine

  • Please note that relocation support is not offered for this position

You are committed to high technical standards and to advancing technology in rendering and game engines, and you naturally share knowledge and raise the bar for those around you. You work with purpose, and colleagues in other disciplines appreciate your ability to communicate and collaborate effectively.

It's great if you also have experience in:

  • Working with Unreal Engine

  • PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X development

  • Working on competitive games with high framerate

About Sharkmob

Sharkmob was founded in 2017 and is headquartered in Malmö, Sweden. We are currently working on Exoborne – a Sharkmob original game. We have previously released Bloodhunt – a battle royale shooter set in the Vampire: The Masquerade universe. We develop games for PC and console, using Unreal 5 to power our vision and ambition.

Exoborne is a tactical open-world extraction shooter set in a world ravaged by extreme forces of nature. As a warrior equipped with powerful Exo-rig technology, you’ll face hostile factions, enemy players, and Mother Nature herself in a game of intense, high-stakes action.

We are fortunate to work with things we are passionate about and we have the privilege of creating entertainment for others to enjoy. We believe that if we have fun making games, people will have fun playing them. Fun is also about boldly taking on great challenges together, achieving heights we couldn't reach alone. All things said, we want a fun, professional experience and so we all must lead by example.

We want everyone to feel like they have a stake in the games we make. Our games are not the brainchild of a few people - we own them together. Everyone’s contributions, opinions, and feedback matter. For this to work everyone needs to respect the big picture and high-level goals of the project. Shared ownership is at the heart of the Sharkmob adventure.

We are here to create great multiplayer shooter games. We want to work on games that people talk about and remember, that capture our imagination and bring people together. To achieve this, we work as a team and in doing so we embrace the concept of "disagree and commit". This means that we accept that we might not always get our way but we wholeheartedly support decisions made as a team.
