
Fortuna is seeking a highly experienced Senior IBM z/OS Storage Systems Programmer to support the California Department of Technology (CDT). This consultant will provide operational and technical expertise for CDT's enterprise z/OS storage environment, including hardware platform assessments, installation and configuration of storage systems, performance tuning, troubleshooting, and knowledge transfer. This is a senior-level infrastructure role supporting mission-critical state systems and requires deep hands-on expertise in IBM mainframe storage technologies.

Up to 40 hours per week
Monday – Friday between 7:00 AM - 6:00 PM
Occasional after-hours or weekend support during maintenance windows may be required
$140–$150 per hour

· Provide operational and technical support for CDT's IBM z/OS Storage environment
· Install, maintain, program, test, and monitor complex mainframe storage systems
· Design and support DFSMS suite, IBM utilities, and related ISV products
· Install and maintain z/OS-related program products
· Install, configure, and maintain storage hardware and software platforms
· Support and manage storage technologies including Virtual Tape Systems (VTS), DASD, and SAN infrastructure
· Perform configuration and hardware platform assessments
· Diagnose and resolve technical issues; apply fixes and test changes
· Perform performance tuning and troubleshooting of storage subsystems
· Manage virtualized partitions and related storage configurations
· Administer CPU, memory, storage, file systems, and security configurations
· Document activities, findings, and technical outcomes
· Provide knowledge transfer and training to CDT staff
· Develop work plan templates, schedules, and project documentation
· Submit Work Authorization Acceptance Documents (WAAD) upon completion of each WA
· Provide weekly written Contract Status Reports outlining completed work, planned work, risks, issues, hours expended, and upcoming activities
· Minimum 7–10 years of hands-on experience supporting IBM z/OS storage environments
· Extensive experience with installation and maintenance of mainframe storage systems
· Strong expertise in DFSMS, IBM utilities, and ISV storage products
· Experience supporting Virtual Tape Systems (VTS), DASD, and SAN infrastructure
· Experience installing and maintaining z/OS-related program products
· Deep understanding of IBM z/OS storage hardware and software platforms
· Strong troubleshooting and performance tuning skills in complex enterprise environments
· Ability to document technical processes and provide structured knowledge transfer
· Strong verbal and written communication skills
· Ability to prioritize and manage workload effectively
· Ability to work effectively in a team-based environment
· Must pass required criminal background checks
· Must comply with CDT security policies and IRS Publication 1075 safeguarding standards
· Must be listed under the contractor's valid CMAS classification
