About the Role

Life Without Barriers is seeking a dedicated Senior Youth Worker to provide direct care and mentoring to children and young people in our residential care homes across Springwood and the Logan region

Guided by the CARE model, this role is hands-on and relationship-focused, supporting children and young people with complex trauma histories through safe, nurturing, developmentally appropriate and trauma-informed care. You will actively engage with young people in daily routines, purposeful activities and life-skills development, while also coaching and mentoring Youth Workers to deliver consistent, high-quality care.

This is a permanent, full-time position, primarily working on-site. Hours generally align with business needs, with flexibility required to work additional or varied hours, including some weekends where required.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Building strong, professional and trusting relationships with children and young people through active, caring engagement

  • Providing daily care, supervision, transport and support within a residential care setting

  • Supporting routines, transitions and activities that promote development, resilience and independence

  • Responding to pain-based behaviours using trauma-informed practice and Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI)

  • Supporting family and kinship connections where appropriate

  • Ensuring homes are emotionally and physically safe, nurturing, engaging and developmentally appropriate

  • Providing leadership, guidance and mentoring to youth workers, including redirection and support

  • Working alongside the House Manager to implement routines, attend care team meetings, manage incidents and liaise with departmental staff

  • Working collaboratively with external stakeholders

  • Maintaining accurate documentation, incident reports, online databases and compliance with HSE policies and procedures


Skills & Experience

  • Hold or are working towards a Certificate IV in Child, Youth and Family Intervention (Residential Care) or recognised equivalent

  • Experience working with children or young people with complex trauma and challenging behaviours

  • Strong understanding of child development, attachment and trauma-informed practice

  • Ability to work within a therapeutic and case-management framework

  • Current driver’s licence, Senior First Aid Certificate and CPR Certification

Successful candidates will be required to clear probity checks including National Criminal History Record Check and a Working with Children Check.
