Working at Transurban is different; it’s a place where you can see the benefits of your work play out in real life, every day. We create city-sized solutions—building and operating safer, smarter, and more sustainable roads—to solve pressing transport challenges that are slowing cities down.

About the role

Transurban (TU) continues to grow in scale and complexity. It is critical that we continue this journey safely and with appropriate levels of governance and risk management while retaining the ability to execute our strategy, business objectives and value proposition. Within this context, there is a clear focus on lawful, ethical and responsible workforce conduct and culture, which is a key People and Culture (P&C) strategic priority.

The Senior Workplace Relations Consultant will contribute to the success of Transurban by providing high-level and specialist advice on strategic and operational workplace relations matters. As an WR professional they will thrive in complex environments, bring sound judgement, and enjoy partnering with leaders to deliver practical, lawful and people‑centred outcomes.

The role will also contribute to P&C and enterprise priorities and initiatives, including but not limited to enterprise bargaining, complex case management, employee conduct, and contributing to Transurban’s delivery of it’s strategic priorities, including investing in our culture to enable our strategy and performance edge.

Day-to-day, you will:

  • Provide specialist advice on complex workplace relations matters including disputes, grievances, misconduct, performance management and capacity matters
  • Interpret and apply industrial instruments, contracts, legislation, policies, and procedures
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of P&C and WR related policies, procedures, and guidelines
  • Coach and educate leaders and People & Culture colleagues on workplace relations risk, policy and compliance
  • Lead the resolution of complex case management and employee conduct issues
  • Contribute to projects and initiatives that strengthen workplace governance, compliance and culture
  • Support enterprise bargaining processes

This role will suit someone with a curious mind and transferrable skills and experiences, including:

  •  At least 5+ years of senior level Workplace Relations experience in large and complex workplace settings
  • Tertiary qualifications in HR, Industrial Relations, Law, Business, Psychology or a related discipline (legal qualifications welcome but not essential)
  • Strong working knowledge of employment legislation, Enterprise Agreements, Modern Awards and common law contracts
  • Experience managing complex case work and investigations end‑to‑end
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and influencing skills
  • Ability to empathise and deal sensitively with issues impacting employee wellbeing, with an innate ability to navigate doing the right thing by the business and its people
  • Proven ability to establish priorities and work to strict timelines, both autonomously and as part of a team

If you meet some of these requirements, but not all, we encourage you to submit your application.

With a career at Transurban, you’ll enjoy a range of benefits, including:

  • A range of flexible working and leave options, including the option to purchase an additional six weeks of leave each year
  • 16 weeks paid parental leave (regardless of gender or carer status), with no waiting period, with Superannuation paid during unpaid leave as well
  • Learning and development opportunities to support your career interests
  • Health and wellbeing support—access to Headspace and our EAP program, wellness facilities, and more
  • Share offers and insurance benefits
  • Social activities, community give-back programs and paid volunteer days

We offer a range of flexible working and leave options, so you can balance your work and life commitments and interests. Have a conversation with us about how this could work for you.

We embrace diversity with a foundation of safety, wellbeing and inclusion; where everyone belongs. We treat everyone with fairness, consideration and respect, regardless of gender, gender identity, marital or family status, sexual orientation, age, ethnicity, religious beliefs, cultural or socio-economic background, perspective, and experience – whether they work for us or not. We want to ensure everyone feels comfortable and safe to express ideas, questions and concerns.
