About Umwelt

At Umwelt, we use environmental and social expertise to create positive change. As one of Australia’s leading employee-owned environmental and social consultancies, we work with clients to deliver sustainable outcomes that balance environmental, social and economic priorities.

We are seeking an experienced, practical and proactive Senior WHS Advisor to support our project teams and field ecologists in the safe delivery of environmental projects across Western Australia, while also contributing to our broader national team.

This hands-on, project focused advisory role supports project teams throughout planning, mobilisation, remote fieldwork and delivery on client projects. As part of a national team, you will provide practical WHS support and work closely with the teams delivering the work.

You will work alongside ecologists, environmental and social professionals delivering everything from remote field surveys and community engagements to major infrastructure and resource sector projects. You will support our people to identify hazards, implement effective risk controls and deliver safe, successful outcomes for our clients.

Reporting to the Safety, Quality and Integrated Systems Lead, you will work closely with project managers, technical specialists and clients to support safe project delivery and strengthen WHS practices across a diverse portfolio of projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate and support project risk assessments, helping project teams identify hazards and implement practical and effective controls
  • Support project teams with WHS requirements throughout project planning, mobilisation, fieldwork and delivery
  • Prepare and maintain project specific safety management plans and supporting WHS documentation
  • Participate in mobilisation meetings and attend client, project and field sites as required
  • Conduct audits and site inspections, support compliance with relevant requirements and assist teams in closing out corrective actions
  • Support and lead incident investigations as appropriate, identifying root causes, lessons learned and practical actions to prevent recurrence
  • Deliver engaging WHS training and guidance that builds capability and supports a positive safety culture
  • Contribute to the ongoing improvement of WHS systems, procedures and project safety documentation
  • Provide practical WHS advice and support to project teams and stakeholders
  • Build effective working relationships with project managers, technical teams, clients and subcontractors
  • Maintain accurate WHS records and prepare clear and practical reports for relevant stakeholders

About You:

We are looking for an experienced WHS professional who combines strong technical knowledge with a practical, collaborative and solutions-focused approach. This opportunity will particularly suit an experienced WHS Advisor who enjoys remaining close to project delivery and is looking to broaden their experience within environmental consulting.

You will bring:

  • A degree or diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or a related discipline
  • At least 5 years experience in a hands-on WHS role, ideally within consulting, environmental services, resources, infrastructure or another project-based environment
  • Strong knowledge of WHS legislation, regulatory requirements and contemporary safety practices
  • Experience supporting WHS management systems aligned with ISO 45001 and ISO 9001
  • Experience providing practical WHS advice throughout the project lifecycle
  • Demonstrated experience undertaking risk assessments and developing practical risk controls
  • Experience conducting internal audits and incident investigations
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with both field based and professional teams
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills with a practical approach to managing WHS issues
  • Excellent time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines without compromising safety
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • RTW and Mental Health First Aid qualifications or willingness to obtain them
  • Willingness to travel and attend regional, remote, client and project sites across Western Australia as required
  • A current driver’s licence

What We Offer:

Our people are our greatest asset, and we are committed to creating a workplace where they can grow, contribute and thrive.

As part of the Umwelt team, you will receive:

  • The opportunity to work alongside experienced environmental and WHS professionals across a diverse portfolio of projects
  • Exposure to environmental, infrastructure and resource sector projects across Western Australia and nationally
  • Flexible working arrangements to support work/life balance
  • Paid parental leave for both primary and secondary carers
  • #MEDays, Umwelt’s wellbeing initiative providing additional paid days off
  • Opportunities to participate in Umwelt’s Employee Share Plan (ESP)
  • A strong culture of learning and development, including internal and external training and mentoring
  • Established wellbeing initiatives and practical, hands-on training
