This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful difference to workforce experience, contributing to a programme of wellbeing initiatives and strengthening our understanding of what working life is really like in practice. You will support the use of evidence and insight to inform decisions and help shape practical improvements.
Working within a supportive team, you will take ownership of key areas of work, contributing to delivery and helping to drive positive change across health and social care. You will lead on work to improve physical working conditions and the psychological wellbeing of staff. This will involve working collaboratively with colleagues and partners, coordinating activity, and ensuring work progresses effectively to meet shared priorities.
You will gain valuable experience in a fast-paced environment with high levels of ministerial, parliamentary and media interest, briefing ministers and developing evidence-based advice to support decision making. The work is varied and often evolves quickly, so flexibility and resilience are essential. You will be supported to manage competing priorities and deliver at pace, including contributing to priority work across the wider unit, division and directorate as required.
This is an excellent opportunity to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, communicating clearly and working collaboratively to achieve shared outcomes. You will develop your ability to influence, work to ministers, and contribute to a culture where wellbeing sits at the heart of staff experience.
Key Responsibilities
While every day can be different, key areas of work include:
Enabling C band and senior leaders to effectively support Ministers in a changing and sensitive area
Supporting colleagues to take forward policy/project work, with potential for line management.
Developing briefing and advice for senior officials and/or Ministers, and drafting and preparation of official documents including guidance, publications, and commissions.
Participation and engagement with partners and stakeholders
Collaboration with other areas of government
Correspondence e.g. Ministerial, official, PQs, urgent/topical/general questions, FoIs

Working pattern
This role is a full-time role, but we welcome applications from staff with different working patterns, proposed working patterns will be assessed against the business requirements for this post
Our standard hours are 35 hours per week, and we offer a range of flexible working options depending on the needs of the role, including Flexi-leave. Scottish Government staff in hybrid-compatible roles should aim to work in-person 40% of the time, either in an office or other agreed work location.
