Job Description

IOTA GROUP is seeking an experienced Senior Well Site Geologist to support a major offshore drilling campaign in Namibia.

This 12-month assignment is primarily offshore and operates on a 4-weeks-on / 4-weeks-off rotational schedule, with occasional onshore activities in Windhoek, Lüderitz, or Walvis Bay as required by project operations.

Acting as the lead geological authority at the wellsite, the successful candidate will provide real-time geological interpretation, formation evaluation, and operational support during the drilling of exploration, appraisal, and development wells in challenging deepwater and HPHT environments

Working in close collaboration with drilling teams, service companies, and onshore subsurface specialists, the Senior Well Site Geologist will play a key role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and geologically optimized execution of drilling operations while supporting critical well delivery and reservoir evaluation objectives.

1. Real-Time Geological Monitoring & Interpretation

  • Monitor and integrate cuttings, mud gas, LWD/MWD, and wireline data
  • Identify formation tops, lithology changes, reservoir zones, and hydrocarbon shows
  • Correlate real-time data with seismic interpretation and pre-drill geological models

2. Drilling Support & Geological Recommendations

  • Detect and communicate drilling hazards, including overpressure, losses, and wellbore instability
  • Recommend casing setting depths, coring points, and Total Depth (TD) calls.
  • Support operational decision-making through timely geological interpretation and communication.

3. Data Acquisition & Quality Control

  • Ensure quality control and integration of all geological and well data.
  • Supervise mud logging, LWD, wireline, coring, and associated service companies.
  • Ensure compliance with approved data acquisition programs and data standards
  • Manage sample handling, labeling, and dispatch of cuttings, cores, fluids, and gas samples

4. HSE & Operational Coordination

  • Participate in risk assessments, HSE meetings, and incident reporting
  • Act as the primary geological focal point on the rig and coordinate with onshore teams.

5. Reporting & Continuous Improvement

  • Deliver daily geological reports, end-of-well reports, and post-well reviews
  • Mentor junior geologists and support continuous improvement initiatives
