A Senior Welder is responsible for repairing, fabrication and maintenance on containers, and/or fleet vehicles. This position routinely requires working along side other maintenance technicians on moderate to major repairs. Level of responsibility and repair work may vary by location.

Responsibilities of Position:

  • Perform sanding, grinding, cutting, torching, drilling, welding and other fabrication or repair work on company/customer containers Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues and makes necessary repairs, adjustments, or replacements
  • Weld components using MIG and ARC welding equipment
  • Fabricate steel components on trucks
  • Assist less experienced technicians with repairs, maintenance assignments, and adjustments
  • Service fleet vehicles per company maintenance schedules and/or from driver vehicle inspection reports (DVIR)
  • Maintain accurate records (time, maintenance orders, and parts usage) on computer/tablet
  • Perform repair and maintenance of fleet vehicles in a safe manner in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and company policies
  • Complete adjustments, repairs, and component replacements to vehicles, equipment, and other related components
  • Ensure all safety devices on vehicles are in good working order
  • Assist in other projects or areas of the shop as needed
  • Communicate in a manner that promotes good relationships with customers, clients, coworkers, and management
  • Maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with Company, ANSI, and OSHA standards
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibility:

  • This position will not manage employees

Skills & Abilities Needed for Position:

  • Excellent welding and mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to operate a forklift safely
  • Ability to perform brazing skills as needed
  • Proficient in the use and interpretation of installation diagrams and troubleshooting manuals
  • Ability to understand and comply with all safety related requirements and standards
  • Adequate mechanical skills along with proficiency in welding and fabricating

Experience & Knowledge Needed for Position:

  • Minimum five (5) years welding and cutting experience
  • Familiar with the use of schematics, wiring diagrams, and related troubleshooting guides pertaining to fleet vehicles/equipment
  • Knowledge of small shop tools, MIG/ARC and stick welding
  • Cutting torch skills; ability to use plasma cutter
  • Knowledge/experience in vehicle maintenance

Physical Requirements in a Regular Workday:

  • Continuously lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a max of 35 lbs
  • Frequently lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a max of 50 lbs
  • Occasionally lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a max of 100 lbs
  • Occasionally working outside in changing temperatures
  • Frequently working in wet/humid conditions
  • Frequently working in areas of dust, odors, mist, gases, and other airborne matter
  • Frequently stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling
  • Frequently climbing and/or balancing
  • Frequently sitting/standing/walking

Additional Working Conditions/Aspects:

  • Possible exposure to high traffic conditions and/or tight driving areas
  • Exposure to residential and commercial waste
  • Ability to travel between offices, as required
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, and/or holidays
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States
  • Valid driver’s license (if applicable)
  • Must successfully complete pre-employment testing
  • Must be able to read and speak the English language
