Job Description

At Symbos, we create connected experiences that bring together people, technology and operational excellence. As an Australian-founded business with global capability, we partner with organisations to build high-performing teams and deliver meaningful outcomes.

We're proud to work with businesses that are investing in transformation, innovation and growth, creating opportunities for talented professionals to make a genuine impact.

About the Client

Our client is a leading Australian industrial group operating multiple specialist businesses across hydraulics, fluid power, pump solutions, engine distribution and engineering services. With a national footprint and a diverse portfolio of brands, they support some of Australia's largest organisations across mining, infrastructure, manufacturing, energy and defence sectors.

The business is currently undertaking a significant digital transformation initiative, investing in modern marketing capability, digital infrastructure and customer-focused online experiences to support future growth.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Senior Web Developer to take ownership of a growing portfolio of WordPress, WooCommerce and Shopify websites.

This is a highly autonomous role where you'll lead technical development, website optimisation and digital transformation projects across multiple brands. You'll play a key role in evolving websites from traditional brochure-style assets into high-performing, lead-generation and eCommerce platforms.

Working closely with the Head of Marketing, designers and business stakeholders, you'll drive technical improvements, enhance user experience and establish development best practices across the portfolio.

What Sets This Role Apart

• Own the full web development lifecycle across a multi-brand digital portfolio

• Work with WordPress, WooCommerce, Shopify, HubSpot, GA4 and Google Tag Manager environments

• Shape the technical roadmap and influence digital transformation initiatives

• Operate in a highly autonomous, remote-first environment with direct stakeholder engagement

• Drive improvements in SEO, accessibility, performance and conversion optimisation across multiple brands

• Join a business that values proactive thinking and continuous improvement beyond day-to-day delivery

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain custom WordPress themes and plugins using PHP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript and jQuery.

• Manage WooCommerce functionality, including product catalogues, checkout flows and customer experiences.

• Develop and maintain Shopify storefronts, including Liquid theme customisation.

• Lead the transition from brochure-style websites to conversion-focused digital experiences.

• Implement technical SEO improvements including schema markup, metadata optimisation, XML sitemaps and canonical structures.

• Improve website accessibility and maintain WCAG 2.1 AA compliance standards.

• Manage and optimise Google Tag Manager and GA4 tracking implementations.

• Monitor and improve Core Web Vitals, page performance and site reliability.

• Maintain integrations across HubSpot CMS, CRM platforms and marketing technologies.

• Establish development standards, documentation and scalable processes across the portfolio.

What We’re Looking For

• 5+ years of professional web development experience, including senior-level ownership of websites or digital platforms.

• Strong experience developing custom WordPress themes and plugins using PHP.

• Advanced proficiency in HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript and jQuery.

• Hands-on experience with WooCommerce and Shopify development environments.

• Experience with HubSpot CMS, forms and CRM integrations.

• Strong understanding of technical SEO best practices.

• Experience implementing Google Tag Manager and GA4 tracking.

• Knowledge of WCAG accessibility standards and performance optimisation techniques.

• Strong Git version control practices.

• Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a remote environment.

Nice to Have

• Experience supporting industrial, engineering or B2B businesses.

• Conversion rate optimisation (CRO), A/B testing and landing page optimisation experience.

• MySQL and database management experience.

• REST API integration experience.

• Exposure to headless or hybrid CMS architectures.

• Familiarity with Figma and collaborating closely with designers.

Who This Role Suits

This role is ideal for a senior developer who enjoys ownership, autonomy and solving complex digital challenges. You'll thrive if you enjoy balancing hands-on development with strategic thinking, identifying opportunities beyond the brief and helping shape the future direction of a growing digital portfolio.

You'll be successful in this role if you're proactive, commercially minded and motivated by creating high-performing websites that deliver measurable business outcomes.

Application Process

The recruitment process includes:

1. Application review and portfolio assessment.
2. Video interview with key stakeholders focusing on technical capability, problem solving and working style.
3. Final-stage case study presentation demonstrating your approach to technical audits, prioritisation and digital transformation opportunities.

If you're a technically strong web developer looking for an opportunity to lead meaningful digital transformation projects while working remotely with an Australian business, we'd love to hear from you.
