Job Description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Web Content Strategist / Content Migration Lead based in Canada.
As a Senior Web Content Strategist / Content Migration Lead, you will help shape a large-scale digital experience modernization initiative involving multiple public-facing websites and a substantial content ecosystem. You will lead the strategy and execution of complex content audits and migration initiatives, transforming extensive legacy content into clearer, more useful, and sustainable digital experiences. This is a strategic role focused on content architecture, governance, migration, and user experience rather than traditional copywriting. You will collaborate closely with Information Architecture, UX, business, and technology teams to establish scalable content structures and processes. Your work will influence content quality, accessibility, findability, SEO performance, and long-term maintainability. This is an opportunity to make a significant impact within a complex, multi-site and potentially regulated digital environment.
Accountabilities:
- Lead content strategy for complex, multi-site and multi-brand digital ecosystems.
- Plan and execute comprehensive content inventories and large-scale content audits.
- Establish clear criteria for determining which content should be retained, consolidated, rewritten, archived, or retired.
- Partner with Information Architecture teams to improve content hierarchy, taxonomy, metadata, navigation, and overall findability.
- Define content models and contribute to component-based content design that supports scalable digital experiences.
- Establish and promote standards for plain language, readability, consistency, accessibility, and content quality.
- Develop sustainable content governance frameworks, including content ownership, review processes, publishing standards, and workflows.
- Collaborate with business analysts and technical teams to plan and execute large-scale CMS migrations and re-platforming initiatives.
- Assess content migration requirements and identify opportunities for automation versus manual migration.
- Support URL mapping, redirects, SEO preservation, and other considerations associated with major website migrations.
- Develop documentation, guidance, and training materials to support content authors, editors, and publishers.
- Work closely with UX, IA, business, and technology stakeholders to ensure content strategy aligns with broader digital experience objectives.
- Contribute to the successful transformation of large and complex content estates into simpler, more sustainable digital experiences.
Requirements
- 8+ years of professional experience in web content strategy, content design, digital content management, or a related discipline.
- Proven experience leading large-scale content audits and migrations involving 1,000+ pages
- Hands-on experience with CMS migrations and website re-platforming initiatives, beyond traditional website copywriting.
- Experience working with complex multi-site, multi-brand, or enterprise digital ecosystems.
- Previous experience in government, public sector, higher education, financial services, or another regulated environment is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of content design principles, information architecture, taxonomy, metadata, and digital findability.
- Solid knowledge of plain-language principles and web accessibility standards.
- Understanding of SEO requirements and potential impacts associated with large-scale website migrations.
- Experience developing and implementing sustainable content governance models.
- Strong ability to collaborate with UX designers, Information Architects, business analysts, technology teams, and other stakeholders.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage large content inventories and complex transformation initiatives.
- Strong analytical and strategic thinking, with the ability to make informed decisions about content lifecycle and migration priorities.
- Clear communication skills and the ability to translate complex content strategy concepts into practical guidance for diverse stakeholders.
- Experience leading content strategy for a government or public-sector web modernization initiative involving multiple websites and a major CMS migration is particularly valuable.
- When applying, candidates should be prepared to provide 2–3 relevant large-scale content transformation or migration projects, including the approximate number of pages/sites, their specific role, and the CMS or platform involved.
Benefits
- Contract position with an hourly rate of CA$75–CA$95 per hour
- Remote work opportunity from Canada.
- Potential travel within Canada depending on project requirements.
- Opportunity to contribute to a large-scale digital experience modernization initiative.
- Exposure to complex content strategy, CMS migration, information architecture, governance, and digital transformation work.
- Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams spanning content, UX, information architecture, business analysis, and technology.
- Opportunity to influence sustainable content practices and digital experiences across multiple sites and brands.
