Stantec has an opportunity for a Senior Water Resources Engineer / Hydrologist to join our Environmental Services team in Atlantic Canada. The position may be based in Halifax, Fredericton, St. John’s, or other regional offices, with flexibility depending on candidate location.
We are seeking a Senior practitioner to play a key role in advancing our Mine Water practice in Atlantic Canada, with a focus on surface water and integrated mine water management. This role is suited for a practitioner who leads from the front—driving technical excellence, shaping project outcomes, and mentoring developing staff—while contributing to complex mining projects across the full lifecycle.
The successful candidate will lead technical delivery of mine water management services across all phases of mining projects—from environmental assessment and permitting through operations, closure, and long-term monitoring—while influencing project direction and ensuring high-quality, defensible outcomes.

Your Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Civil, Environmental, or related discipline) or Environmental Sciences (Hydrology or related field). A Master’s degree is considered an asset
It is considered as asses to be registered or eligible to register as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) in an Atlantic Canadian province
Typically 8–12 years of progressive experience in water resources, including demonstrated leadership on mining or similar industrial projects
Experience leading technical components of environmental assessments, design studies, operational support, and closure planning
The Work Environment
This position is primarily office-based with opportunities for fieldwork and site visits across Atlantic Canada. Occasional travel to mine sites may be required, with opportunities to support projects in other regions of Canada.
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
