The Senior Vice President, Chief Nursing Officer (SVP CNO) of Lahey Clinic position offers an exceptional opportunity for a progressive healthcare executive committed to delivering the highest quality healthcare. The SVP CNO will ensure that Lahey Clinic functions at the highest levels including delivering safe, high-quality coordinated care, efficient management of resources, smooth and efficient administrative services, and implementation of strategic and operational plans for Lahey Clinic while also serving in leadership with the Jean Cunningham Department of Nursing.

The SVP CNO will be responsible for the executive leadership and fiscal health of Lahey Clinic and leading the organization during a challenging period in healthcare and a pivotal moment for the organization. Joining as Beth Israel Lahey Health (BILH) launches its 10-year strategic plan, the SVP CNO will execute Lahey Clinic's plan.

The SVP CNO will work collaboratively with system-wide leadership and other BILH hospital and business unit CNO’s to advance goals to strengthen its mission of becoming a fully integrated system of patient care, education, research, and community service. This individual will identify new sites of service and strategic partnerships that extend into the community, ensuring a robust health system distinguished by offering outstanding patient care programs and strong financial performance.

The SVP CNO will be a strong operational leader with sound fiscal management experience who will continue Lahey Clinic's lengthy culture of service and collaborative care. The SVP CNO will be a visible and enthusiastic leader within the organization and a vital partner in supporting philanthropy.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

• Ensures the highest professional standards for the nursing service.
• Establishes guidelines for the delivery of nursing care, treatment and services and provides oversight for nursing policy and procedure approval.
• Develop cultural competencies and sensitivity to understand and relate to a diverse patient population and workforce.
• Provide leadership and guidance in conceptualizing and implementing a philosophy of nursing which advances the discipline of nursing, facilitates the design/redesign of patient care delivery, builds relationships among constituents both within and outside the nursing division, and promotes education, information sharing, and professional development.
• Promote and support the value of nursing education and research, including the provision of formal mentorship and development to all levels of nursing division.
• Ensures effectiveness of nursing staffing plans and represents Lahey Clinic nursing to external professional organizations and establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with schools of nursing.
• In partnership with Human Resources, ensures the recruitment, retention, development, succession planning for and engagement of patient care team members and leadership.
• Responsible for ensuring timely and constructive feedback to all employees through ongoing mentoring, and timely completion of annual performance evaluations.
• Ensures a safe and supportive workplace through leadership in initiatives to prevent employee injuries and other employee safety and support initiatives.
• Lead the team of nursing leaders by providing direction, encouraging close collaboration both with the department of nursing and across service lines and departments, and delegating as appropriate to ensure that the strategy, goals and objectives of Nursing are aligned with those of Lahey Clinic.
• Work collaboratively with the Department of Quality/Safety and disease center leaders in the development, implementation, measurement and reporting of quality improvement projects.
• Works with department directors and managers to meet organizational financial goals and implements mid-course adjustments as needed based on changes in volume, reimbursement expectations or other healthcare environment or economic changes.
• Provides leadership for ongoing improvement in clinical quality and patient safety, including but not limited to implementation of National Patient Safety Standards.
• Remains current on developing trends in quality improvement and patient safety and implements clinical best practices.
• Is skilled in application of tools for process improvement application of tools for process improvement including but not limited to LEAN engineering principles and ensures the development of those skills by department directors and managers.
• Is accountable for ensuring a high quality patient and family centered care experience.
• Ensures continuous compliance with all regulatory bodies, including but not limited to The Joint Commission, CMS and Department of Public Health.
• Has the responsibility to lead and support managers and directors in developing and improving operations to create optimal performance levels.

Additional Responsibilities:

Responsible for review and approval of Lahey Clinics’ operating and capital budgets prior to their submission to Finance Committee of the Board.

Required Qualifications:

• Master's degree in Nursing and Business Administration, Healthcare Finance or Hospital Administration required. Doctoral Degree Preferred.
• (DNP or PhD) License Registered Nurse required.
• More than 10 years related work experience required and more than 10 years supervisory/management experience required.
• High level comprehension of Finance and Accounting and the ability to manage both capital and operating budgets of a complex nature.
• Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.

Team Work: Ability to lead and direct multiple collaborative teams for large projects or groups both internal and external to the Medical Center and across functional areas. Results have significant implications for the management and operations of the organization.

Customer Service: Ability to lead operational initiatives to meet or exceed customer service standards and expectations in assigned unit(s) and/or across multiple areas in a timely and respectful manner.

Pay Range:

$350,000.00 USD - $425,000.00 USD

The pay range listed for this position is the annual base salary range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. In addition to base compensation, this position may be eligible for additional compensation, which may include performance-based incentive bonuses.
