Job Description
At Catch Design, we help some of New Zealand’s most recognised brands create meaningful, inclusive, and impactful digital experiences. We’re looking for a Senior UX/UI Designer who brings strong design craft, strategic thinking, and a passion for solving complex problems through thoughtful, human-centred design.
If you're an experienced designer who can confidently lead design across projects, balance UX thinking with high-quality UI execution, and enjoy mentoring others along the way, this could be the role for you.
What you’ll do
You’ll lead the design stream across complex digital projects, shaping direction from discovery through to delivery. You’ll combine research, strategy, and craft to ensure the right problems are being solved—and that the solutions are intuitive, elegant, and effective.
You will:
- Lead end-to-end UX/UI design across projects—from discovery and research through to final UI and handover
- Apply human-centred design principles to create intuitive, accessible, and visually compelling experiences
- Plan and lead research activities, including user interviews, usability testing, analytics reviews, and surveys
- Translate insights into clear problem definitions, customer journeys, wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs
- Design and maintain component-based design systems that ensure consistency and scalability
- Apply strong visual design craft across layout, typography, colour, and interaction design
- Facilitate workshops and collaborate with clients to align on vision, priorities, and direction
- Work closely with developers, content designers, strategists, and producers to ensure seamless delivery
- Contribute to planning, estimation, and prioritisation within cross-functional teams.
Mentorship and practice contribution
As a senior member of the design team, you’ll help lift the capability and quality of our work.
You will:
- Mentor and support designers through feedback, coaching, and collaboration
- Contribute to evolving our design systems, tools, and ways of working
- Share knowledge, ideas, and new approaches that strengthen our design practice
- Champion high standards of craft, usability, and accessibility across all work.
Requirements
You must already be based in New Zealand and available to work from our Auckland office.
- 5 – 6 + years’ experience in UX/UI or product design roles
- Proven experience working in a digital agency or consultancy environment
- A strong portfolio demonstrating depth across research, design thinking, and high-fidelity interface design
- Proven experience leading design on complex digital products or services
- Strong expertise in UX research, usability testing, and insight-led design
- High level of visual design craft across UI, interaction, typography, and layout
- Proficiency in Figma and experience working with design systems
- Experience working in Agile environments and collaborating with cross-functional teams
- Strong communication and facilitation skills, with confidence in engaging clients and stakeholders
- A thoughtful, curious mindset grounded in empathy, evidence, and continuous improvement
- A collaborative mindset and passion for helping others grow.
Most importantly, you’ll embody Catch’s mission: Do good by our team, do good by our clients, and deliver great work.
