  • Build reusable, modular components and libraries that power Simpson Strong-Tie's digital products.

  • Ensure applications are responsive, fast, accessible, and well-tested across devices and browsers.

UX & Design Collaboration

  • Partner with designers early — contribute to design decisions and propose interaction patterns rather than only consuming Figma artifacts.

  • Build and maintain the design system and component library as the shared source of truth between design and engineering.

  • Advocate for accessibility (WCAG), usability, and consistent interaction patterns across products.

Architecture & Performance

  • Lead the design of complex front-end applications, ensuring scalability and performance.

  • Collaborate with backend engineers on integration via REST APIs and WebSockets.

  • Optimize performance using techniques like lazy loading, code splitting, and tools like Lighthouse and Chrome DevTools.

AI-Augmented Development

  • Leverage AI coding assistants (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, or similar) to accelerate development while maintaining code quality.

  • Prototype AI-powered features and integrate AI APIs (Anthropic, OpenAI, Azure OpenAI) where they add product value.

  • Critically evaluate AI output — knowing when to trust, verify, or override.

Collaboration & Mentorship

  • Partner with product managers, designers, and backend engineers across multiple product teams.

  • Mentor Interns, Engineers, and Associate Senior Engineers — including how to work effectively with AI tools.

  • Lead code reviews, establish coding standards, and drive continuous improvement.

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

If you can do everything listed above, you’ve got what it takes. Perhaps some of the following would be helpful too:

  • Experience building and maintaining component libraries using atomic design and design tokens

  • Solid grasp of accessibility (WCAG) and an eye for visual detail

  • Comfortable translating designer intent and user feedback into thoughtful implementation

  • Demonstrated daily use of AI coding tools, with concrete examples of how they've changed how you work

  • Comfort with prompt engineering, context management, and critically evaluating AI output

  • Curiosity about emerging AI capabilities and interest in integrating AI APIs into products

  • Fluent English communication skills (both verbal and written)

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills

  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodology

  • Familiarity with state management patterns and libraries

  • Familiarity with web security principles and front-end vulnerabilities (e.g., XSS, CSRF)
