About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Utility Surveyor to join our Underground Utility Survey team based in Shropshire.

This is an excellent opportunity for an established utility survey professional looking to take the next step in their career within a growing, multi-disciplinary surveying business. You will play a key role in the delivery of high-quality underground utility surveys while supporting the development of junior team members and contributing to the continued growth of the utilities department.

Working with the latest survey technologies, you will be involved in a wide range of utility and geospatial projects, undertaking both field-based survey work and office-based data processing to deliver accurate, reliable and industry-compliant survey outputs.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver underground utility surveys to PAS128 standards
• Undertake utility mapping projects using electromagnetic locating and ground penetrating radar (GPR) technologies
• Operate Radiodetection and Vivax electromagnetic locating equipment
• Carry out GPR surveys using a range of industry-standard systems
• Process, interpret and validate survey data for client deliverables
• Produce and review survey drawings and outputs using AutoCAD
• Support projects involving topographical and drainage survey information
• Lead field teams on utility survey projects
• Mentor and support junior and trainee surveyors
• Ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to a high standard
• Maintain survey equipment and ensure operational readiness
• Contribute to the ongoing growth and development of the utilities department

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

• Demonstrable experience as an Underground Utility Surveyor
• Strong experience with electromagnetic locating (EML) and Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) surveying techniques
• Experience processing and interpreting utility survey data within an office environment
• Experience delivering PAS128-compliant utility surveys
• Good working knowledge of AutoCAD
• Strong understanding of utility mapping principles and industry best practice
• Ability to manage survey projects and work effectively to deadlines
• Experience mentoring or supporting junior survey staff
• Excellent communication and organisational skills
• Strong commitment to health, safety and quality standards
• Full UK driving licence
• Willingness to travel and stay away from home when required

Qualifications

• ProQual Level 5 in Utility Mapping and Surveying Management and/or ProQual Level 4 in Utility Mapping and Surveying is highly desirable
• SSSTS certification would be advantageous
• EUSR registration would be advantageous
• Confined Space training would be advantageous
• Additional utility surveying, geospatial, engineering or health and safety qualifications would be beneficial
