Senior Urban Designer

Urban Design at KBR

We have a unique opportunity for a Senior Urban Designer to join our busy team in Melbourne with an opportunity to work closely with the landscape architecture team and play a key role in growing the urban design offer in Melbourne.

As a key member of the team you will have the opportunity to work on a range of projects across our business sectors including transport, water, and defence You will collaborate with a large multi-disciplinary team and contribute to creative solutions that yield award winning outcomes.

Your role will include (but not be limited to):

  • Accurate provision of design analysis as well as input, advice and expertise on urban design projects to deliver design services to key city shaping projects.
  • Effective management of sub-consultants preparing feasibility studies, context analysis, masterplan/open space strategies and precinct plan development.
  • Accurately apply knowledge of local council and state government and federal strategies and guidelines as they relate to urban design approaches.
  • Independently lead urban design projects, leading client interaction and commercial oversight of projects.
  • Assist in business development, contributing to bid tenders and proposals.
  • Lead client interaction and stakeholder consultation.

Work closely with the landscape architecture and other design disciplines to assist on the development and delivery of active projects.

Who are you?

You are a motivated Urban Designer, eager to take a prominent role in supporting KBRs growing urban design team. You have a proven track record of working in multi-disciplinary environments, facilitating design coordination, sub-contractor management, liaising with clients and business development.

You recognise the importance of maintaining professional networks within the company and across the industry, building strong relationships with clients and stakeholders.

Your skills and experience:

  • Master’s degree in urban design.
  • Ability to work independently with proven ability to lead projects and work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Bring industry knowledge and contacts with a view to pursuing urban design opportunities and assisting in team growth.
  • Exposure to business development would be highly regarded.
  • Proven experience in providing and delivering design advice on city shaping infrastructure and urban design projects.
  • Experience working in a consulting environment.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills.
  • In-depth understanding of sub-contractor management, delivering project milestones on time and on budget
