Job Description

The Co-op Refinery Complex (CRC) is hiring 2 Senior Unit Operations Engineers on a permanent basis to work on-site in Regina, SK.

As a Senior Unit Operations Engineer at the Co‑op Refinery Complex, you’ll provide technical leadership that supports safe operations, unit reliability, and continuous improvement. What you’ll do:

  • Champion safety at the CRC through participating in Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) Studies, providing technical input into incident investigations, where appropriate, and completing action plans to prevent future incidents.
  • Provide technical leadership for assigned process units, including daily performance monitoring, data analysis, environmental reporting, troubleshooting, and optimization, to meet the required production plan and product specification.
  • Drive yield improvement initiatives through proactive unit monitoring, catalyst management, and collaboration with the Laboratory and Production Planning team.
  • Drive energy improvement initiatives through identified energy reduction opportunities and collaboration with the Process Engineering team.
  • Drive unit reliability and optimization through close coordination with Engineering, Maintenance, Inspection, Planning & Scheduling, and external licensors and vendors to resolve process and equipment issues, address bad actors, and support long‑term performance.
  • Support maintenance, capital projects, and turnarounds by identifying and justifying work orders and projects. Lead Management of Change and process hazard analyses, supporting the development shutdown, commissioning, and startup plans, and providing on‑site technical support.
  • Mentor and develop more junior Unit Operations Engineers by sharing technical expertise, supporting skill development, and building operational knowledge and capability across the Process Engineering team.

Who you’ll work with:
You will work closely with Process Operators, Shift Supervisors, Engineers, Maintenance, Planning & Scheduling, Project Managers, Environmental Affairs, Process Safety, and other stakeholders to support sound technical decisions, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement across unit operations.

Who you are:
You are looking for a career in Engineering & Engineering Technology and:

  • Have 6+ years of relevant engineering experience within a refining, petrochemical, or heavy industrial environment.
  • Have a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering or related field (a combination of relevant education and experience may be considered).
  • Are a registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng).
  • Are familiar with unit operations and process engineering fundamentals, including process control, troubleshooting, operating procedures, and more.
