JOB OVERVIEW:

The Senior Underwriter - Client Relations /Business Development develops, sustains, and manages positive Relationships with the Clients and Producers, to secure new business, retention of existing business, enhances existing portfolios and customer experience. He/she is also responsible for underwriting all classes of business and signing slips within their authority limits whilst at the broker office.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Risk Assessment

• Conduct risk assessment/appraisal of both complex and non-complex new business and renewal risks which includes accepting or declining the risk, determining most appropriate rates, terms and conditions.
• Apply due diligence checks and background research on clients and their risk to be covered
• Liaise with the overseas partners to place Facultative Insurance and Special Acceptance placement for risk outside GGIL’s reinsurance treaties
• Prepare / Provide Quotations/New Business/Renewal Reviews/Renewals/Amendments within GGIL’s underwriting guidelines, standard operating procedures, approved underwriting limits of authority and reinsurance treaties
• Reviewing of policies and ensuring all notices and renewal listings are sent out in accordance with guidelines prior to renewal date
• Review and discuss Renewals with all Stakeholders to achieve retention target
• Follow up with clients or producers on renewals
• Conduct portfolio analysis and analysis on assigned accounts to monitor performance.

1. Receivables Management

• Act as liaison between the company and the clients and/or producers for collection of premiums.

1. Relationship Management

• Provide general guidance to producers and/or clients on all underwriting matters.
• Act as liaison between the company and the producer and/or clients to facilitate the easy delivery of policies and other correspondence and collection of premiums.
• Accompany underwriters or up-line to producers and/or clients for meetings.
• Provide general guidance to producers and/or clients on basic claims procedures and assist with the completion of claim reports when necessary.
• Communicate changes to business practices, procedures, and policies when required.
• Advise management of any associated problems as and when they occur when liaising with Producers and or clients and recommend solutions.
• Keep abreast of market changes to make more informed recommendations on clients’ needs or changes to business operations.
• Collect and deliver documents to producers and/or customers.
• Sales management to build relationships with producers and/or clients and internal staff, daily.

1. Loss Control

• Conduct loss control surveys in absence of Loss Control Officer.

1. Perform any other job-related duties as assigned by the Team Leader/Manager

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

• Associate Degree or equivalent experience
• 5 O’ levels including Maths and English
• 2 A levels/CAPE
• Mandatory State licensing or CII Insurance Certificate.
• ACII Diploma, BSC in Risk and Insurance or IIA Insurance Designations such as ARM, AINS or any other acceptable qualification
• A minimum of 8 years underwriting experience in Property (personal and commercial) & Casualty Insurance with at least 2 years in producer/client relations.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT:

As a regulated entity with obligations under the Know Your Employee guidelines, a Certificate of Character is required.

Senior Underwriter - Client Relations /Business Development must possess a keen sense of customer service and good business acumen. He/ she must possess a positive, friendly and confident attitude, have the ability to operate and contribute positively in a team-based environment and take initiative; as evidenced by the ability to self-manage, organize and prioritize work. He/ She must possess excellent written and oral communication skills, demonstrate good negotiating skills and have the ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
