About the Role

We are looking for a highly motivated and passionate agriculture underwriter with hands on experience in agriculture insurance/ reinsurance business or a related field to join our Agriculture Reinsurance Team at Swiss Re in Singapore.

In this role, you will contribute to growth and profitability by supporting underwriting activities in agricultural reinsurance across Korea, Japan, Southeast Asia, ANZ, with flexibility to support other APAC markets as required.

This includes costing and pricing of agricultural reinsurance treaties and facultative business, as well as the origination of new business opportunities—such as developing new agricultural schemes—in collaboration with both internal stakeholders and external partners from the private and public sectors.

Depending on experience of candidate, this role would be positioned at VP level.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the global agriculture portfolio strategy with a main focus on identifying and originating new opportunities in the responsible markets.
  • High-quality underwriting, costing, and pricing of agricultural reinsurance business—including both renewals and new deals—in alignment with Swiss Re’s underwriting guidelines, pricing tools, and best practices.
  • Develop new agricultural insurance schemes—including product design, pricing, and policy wording—in collaboration with private sector partners (e.g., local insurers) and public sector entities (e.g., government agencies) in the responsible markets. Develop skills and knowledge in index-based insurance solutions.
  • Maintain and develop client and Agri-stakeholder relationships, playing a key role in portfolio steering and client management.
  • Originate and manage relationships with insurers, brokers, and government entities in collaboration with Client Markets and Public Sector Solutions, where applicable.
  • Contribute to internal and external technical and market studies, publications, and deliver value-added training and consulting services to clients.
  • Continuous Data analytics, data management and processing & analysis of agriculture insurance and reinsurance market data & information.
  • Responsible of collating pricing & claims data and presenting it for companies' business need for business planning and execution.
  • Responsible for the end-to-end underwriting process, encompassing business, contract administration, UW data system input as well as UW budgeting, in close collaboration with Business Services, Contract Wordings, and Finance teams.

About You

  • Minimum 5-8 years relevant work experience in insurance or reinsurance underwriting/ actuarial / pricing. Knowledge of agriculture business in Asia will be an advantage.
  • Effective communication skills and solid working relationship with various stakeholders in agriculture business.
  • Highly Self-motivated and able to engage, empower and work in agile team environment.
  • Ability to work accurately and deliver to deadlines.
  • Analytical skills with ability to solve technical issues in a pragmatic way.
  • Strong technical understanding of agriculture pricing, exposure assessment and claims/loss experience analysis.
  • Resilient and agile, with the ability to adapt effectively to demanding and rapidly changing market environments.
  • Good in Data analytics, data management and processing.
  • Good at problem solving and ready to take on new initiatives.
  • Graduate or Post-graduate in Agriculture/ Actuarial Science/ Finance/ Agronomics/ Statistics/ Computer Engineering/ Insurance and related discipline
  • Proficient in using Microsoft products like excel, power point etc.
  • Knowledge & understanding of emerging technology in agriculture insurance is an advantage.
