Job Description

Sperton Global AS, a global recruitment and consulting firm with offices across Europe, Asia, and the Americas, is partnering with our client, a global leader in power technology and electrical infrastructure, to hire a Senior Transformer Engineer supporting its U.S. Transformer Services engineering team.

Role Overview

The Senior Transformer Engineer will provide technical engineering support across transformer service, testing, repair, field engineering, and customer support.

This is primarily an office-based engineering role with approximately 20% travel, providing technical support to field crews and customers while also contributing to engineering studies, transformer assessments, repair solutions, and technical investigations.

You will work closely with engineering, operations, field service teams, customers, and quotation teams. The position also provides opportunities to participate in IEEE activities, technical conferences, customer training, and professional development initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical engineering support for medium- and large-power transformer service, repair, testing, and field activities.
  • Serve as a technical resource for field crews, operations, customers, and quotation teams.
  • Provide 24/7 technical support coverage to field crews across U.S. time zones which may include availability for early-morning, evening, or on-call technical support depending on field operations and customer requirements.
  • Perform and support transformer condition assessments, life assessments, thermal studies, and electrical analysis.
  • Review and validate transformer test plans, test data, and technical reports.
  • Develop and review repair, retrofit, refurbishment, and upgrade scopes of work for existing transformers.
  • Support root cause analysis, internal inspections, and technical investigations involving transformers.
  • Work with field engineers and technicians to resolve complex technical issues and develop practical solutions.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced engineers and field personnel.
  • Participate in customer training, technical presentations, IEEE activities, and industry conferences.

Qualifications

  • Must already have authorization to work in the United States. Sponsorship is not available.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline with 5+ years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and substantial transformer experience.
  • Experience with transformer testing, repair/retrofit, condition assessment, electrical studies, or engineering analysis.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365; AutoCAD experience is preferred.
  • Strong analytical, communication, technical writing, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with field crews, engineers, customers, and internal stakeholders.
  • Comfortable providing technical support across multiple U.S. time zones, including occasional early-morning, evening, or on-call support as required by field operations.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 20% within the United States

Why Consider This Opportunity?

  • Work on technically challenging medium- and large-power transformers supporting critical power infrastructure.
  • Combine engineering analysis with real-world field exposure rather than being limited to an office-only or field-only position.
  • Gain exposure to transformer testing, repair, retrofit, condition assessment, and engineering studies.
  • Work alongside experienced transformer and power-system professionals.
  • Opportunities to participate in IEEE activities, technical conferences, and technical presentations.
  • Develop as a technical subject matter expert while mentoring other engineers and field professionals.
  • Support solutions that contribute to the reliability and performance of the power grid.
