Sr Traffic Engineer / Planner

STV is looking for a Senior Traffic Engineer / Planner to help shape the future of mobility across North Texas. In this role, you’ll lead high-impact transportation planning and traffic engineering projects that improve how people move through growing communities across the DFW region.

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys a mix of technical leadership, client partnership, team mentorship, and practice growth. You’ll work with clients such as TxDOT, NCTCOG, municipalities, counties, toll authorities, and transit agencies on projects that are visible, meaningful, and connected to the region’s long-term transportation needs.

The ideal candidate brings strong experience in transportation planning and traffic engineering, along with curiosity, sound judgment, and the ability to turn complex data into clear recommendations. You’ll have the autonomy to lead projects, guide project teams, advise clients, and help expand STV’s transportation planning and traffic engineering presence in Texas.

What You’ll Do

• Lead corridor, mobility, transportation master planning, traffic impact, safety, and multimodal studies for state, regional, and local clients.
• Use data, modeling, and visualization tools to help clients understand transportation needs, evaluate alternatives, and make informed investment decisions.
• Develop travel demand models, traffic forecasts, growth projections, and scenario analyses using tools such as VISUM, TransCAD, ArcGIS, Power BI, Tableau, and SQL-based datasets.
• Conduct traffic operations, safety, and microsimulation analyses using HCM and HSM methodologies, Synchro, VISSIM, SIDRA, and related platforms.
• Evaluate transit, active transportation, freight, connectivity, and emerging mobility strategies that support stronger, more connected communities.
• Serve as a project manager or technical lead, guiding scope, schedule, budget, quality, and client satisfaction.
• Prepare reports, presentations, and recommendations that clearly communicate technical findings to clients, agencies, and stakeholders.
• Mentor junior staff, support proposal and interview efforts, and contribute to the continued growth of STV’s Texas transportation practice.
• Collaborate with roadway, traffic design, ITS, transit, environmental, and planning professionals on multidisciplinary projects.

What You’ll Bring

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Planning, or a related field.
• 11+ years of experience in transportation planning, traffic engineering, ITS/transportation technology, or related consulting work.
• Texas PE license.
• Experience leading corridor, transportation planning, traffic operations, safety, multimodal, or transit studies.
• Ability to apply travel demand models, transportation datasets, GIS, and visualization tools to solve problems and support decision-making.
• A collaborative leadership style with experience managing projects, guiding technical work, and mentoring team members.
• Strong writing, presentation, communication, and client relationship skills.
• Experience with traffic signal design, ITS, signing and pavement marking, traffic control, or roadway design is a plus.

Compensation Range:

$146,678.11 - $167,632.13
