Job Role Summary

ExxonMobil Global Trading is looking for an experienced Feedstocks / Fuel Oil Trader to join our dynamic and rapidly growing global Heavy Distillates team. This role will be responsible for risk-on trading in physical and/or derivative markets, optimizing ExxonMobil assets, managing risk, and capturing value through strategic trading decisions and global arbitrage. This role requires strong market analysis, negotiation skills, and collaboration across internal and external stakeholders to maximize profitability and ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and company policies.

Job Role Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute trading strategies for feedstocks / fuel oil, leveraging market fundamentals and ExxonMobil assets to unlock opportunities that capture value.
  • Initiate, negotiate, and execute physical and/or derivative trades to express market views and/or hedge exposures.
  • Continuously monitor market conditions, supply/demand dynamics, and competitive developments, and share them internally.
  • Participate in an active global team where information sharing and close collaboration are highly valued to maximize outcomes.
  • Evaluate and execute discretionary opportunities beyond core business (e.g., storage, blending, freight, arbitrage).
  • Work closely with Operations team to manage physical inventory positions and optimize transportation and logistics decisions.
  • Manage market and operational risk, ensuring adherence to company policies and industry regulations.
  • Recommend and implement changes to short-term supply and sales plans to optimize asset value (i.e., product yield shifts, import/export adjustments).
  • Collaborate with Risk, Credit, Legal, Accounting, and other teams throughout the trade lifecycle.
  • Conduct all business with the highest ethical standards and in strict compliance with sanctions and other regulations.

Required Qualifications

  • 7-10 years of experience in physical/paper energy trading
  • Physical and/or derivatives trading experience in petroleum products
  • Experience with US fuel oil and/or feedstock markets (HSFO / CBO / VLSFO / HSSR / LSSR / VGO) highly preferred
  • Solid understanding of commodity markets, trade flows, supply/demand fundamentals, arbitrage economics, etc.
  • Proven ability to develop and execute profitable physical / paper trading strategies
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, leadership, and organizational skills
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills; ability to build collaborative relationships and work on a large global team spanning multiple time zones
  • Deep understanding of commodity risk management, hedging, VAR and exposure management
  • Deep knowledge of Jones Act and foreign flag freight, blending, and storage logistics.
