Global Trade Process Excellence is a key function within Volvo Cars’ Global Trade Management & Compliance organization. We support our global delivery sites and stakeholders by enabling the efficient movement of goods across borders through streamlined customs clearance and export control processes.
By leveraging proactive data management, we simplify import and export routines to ensure fast, cost-efficient, and fully compliant operations, maximizing the benefits of special trade programs while adhering to regulatory requirements.
With the establishment of our new manufacturing plant in Košice, Slovakia, where production will commence in 2027, we want to strengthen our local Trade Strategy and Compliance representation to support the successful integration of the Košice manufacturing site into Volvo Cars’ global customs and trade governance framework.
You will play a pivotal role in shaping our local operations, supporting alignment between the Košice plant, Volvo Cars’ global customs governance framework, and external stakeholders, including customs authorities.
You will report to the Senior Manager, EMEA Process Excellence, acting as the senior advisor for trade compliance matters affecting the Slovak operation while supporting customs processes governed and controlled through the EMEA Customs Control Tower, and collaborating closely with colleagues across Sweden, Belgium, and the UK.

What you'll do

We consider this a senior role already on day one, with a high degree of ownership, visibility, and impact. As a Senior Trade Specialist, you will be the driving force behind providing trade compliance representation, stakeholder alignment and local implementation support for the Košice operation.

In doing so, you will:

  • Be the Expert Act as the senior trade compliance advisor, providing strategic guidance to local stakeholders and supporting the implementation of globally defined customs and trade compliance policies;
  • Drive Standardization Support the deployment of global customs and trade compliance strategies and facilitate local adoption of globally established operating models while providing local business input on Slovak regulatory requirements;
  • Lead Continuous Improvement Lead trade compliance improvement initiatives, providing local business insight and supporting the continuous evolution of global customs processes;
  • Own Compliance Support the execution of globally established compliance governance frameworks and assist with local implementation of audit and control activities defined alongside the EMEA Customs Control Tower;
  • Engage Authorities Support strategic engagement with customs authorities, governmental stakeholders, and industry representatives while coordinating closely with the EMEA Customs Control Tower;
  • Optimize Duty Spend Support the identification of strategic duty optimisation opportunities (e.g. compliant usage of free trade agreements and special procedures);
  • Leverage Data Use analytics and business intelligence to ensure transparency and control over operations;
  • Develop Others Promote trade compliance awareness, drive stakeholder engagement, and support the development of trade compliance knowledge across relevant business functions;
  • Regulatory Insight Monitor regulatory developments relevant to Slovakia and provide insight to global trade compliance leadership;
  • Roadmap & Transformation Support long-term trade compliance roadmap activities, future customs simplification initiatives, and cross-functional projects impacting manufacturing, logistics, sourcing, and business transformation.

What you'll bring

  • Preferred completed university education in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field;
  • Subject matter expertise backed up with relevant hands-on experience (not necessarily automotive) in customs-related tasks and global trade compliance (import/export), ideally from the consulting side of customs, as well as a solid understanding of EU Customs, Customs declaration, and MIC Customs application process;
  • Strong analytical, communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills as well as the ability to demonstrate ownership;
  • Understanding of data analytics (Power BI, Tableau);
  • Experience in process development and change management;
  • Experience in building relationships and confidence in engaging with stakeholders at all levels, bringing the professionalism and courage required to challenge constructively;
  • High degree of autonomy and situational adaptability in an environment with shifting demands, building structures from the ground up, and navigating an environment where not everything is predefined;
  • Ability to figure out processes to get things done with a focus on continuous improvement;
  • Fluent in English, written and spoken, as well as the Slovak language.

Compensation Data

Monthly gross salary for this position starts from 2.500 EUR.
* The salary amount represents the minimum guaranteed amount of the basic salary component applicable to the job. Final salary is negotiable and will be adjusted in accordance with seniority level and previous experience of candidate.
