Job Description

We are the AWS Hardware Engineering Equipment Development Group. We own the thermal and mechanical hardware designs of testing equipment and drive Operational Excellence end-to-end related to thermal and mechanical issues. Our team provides engineering solutions for thermo-mechanical needs across the organization, supports New Product Introduction (NPI), and partners with Product Engineering and Operations teams at OSATs worldwide.

We are looking for a Senior Thermal Design & Equipment Engineer to join a team focused on advancing next-generation testing capabilities. In this role, you will contribute to thermal and mechanical design, simulation, and validation efforts — working with a high degree of independence across vendors and internal teams to ensure hardware performs reliably in production environments.

Key job responsibilities
- Own the thermal and mechanical design of test equipment from concept through production, including heat sink and cold plate design, thermal interface material selection, fan selection, and airflow/liquid-flow architecture
- Perform thermal simulations using CFD tools and validate simulation accuracy against real-world test data
- Develop and execute thermal validation test plans; debug and resolve thermal failures identified during bring-up and qualification
- Collaborate with ODMs, OSATs, and internal cross-functional teams (Product Engineering, NPI, Operations) to drive hardware from prototype to mass production
- Mentor and develop junior engineers; lead process improvement initiatives and contribute to team capability building in thermal and mechanical simulation
- Author clear technical documentation to communicate design decisions, trade-off analyses, and validation results to stakeholders

A day in the life
You will spend your time contributing to thermal design reviews, running and interpreting CFD simulations, and collaborating with vendors and internal teams through written communication. You will own two to three active hardware development projects simultaneously, acting as a key representative of the Equipment Development Group. You will also support production environments by diagnosing thermal issues in test cells and handlers and contribute to the team's long-term capability growth through mentoring and process development.

About the team
The Equipment Development Group is part of the Annapurna Labs operations team. Our team has two core functions:
(1) supporting production and engineering equipment health, NPI bring-up and ramp-up at OSATs and collaborating with the Product Engineering Group; and
(2) developing and delivering engineering solutions for thermo-mechanical needs across the organization.

We value strong written communicators who thrive in a collaborative, documentation-driven working model.

Basic Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
- 5+ years of experience in thermal and mechanical design
- 5+ years of experience with thermal simulation (CFD tools such as Flotherm, ANSYS Icepak, or equivalent)

Preferred Qualifications

- Master’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
- 7+ years of experience in thermal and mechanical design of actively controlled thermal solutions
- Experience with design of optical testing solutions for semiconductors
- Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production
- Experience developing and mentoring engineers; track record of leading process improvement initiatives
- Strong written communication skills with experience conveying technical design decisions to cross-functional stakeholders
