Job Description

Senior Test Systems Design Engineer

Company:

The Boeing Company

Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) seeks a Lead Test Systems Design Engineer to our Special Test Equipment (STE) for Space Electronics team located in El Segundo, CA.

Join an elite team designing space-grade electronics—from power and digital subsystems to RF and mixed-signal systems—responsible for the full lifecycle of cutting-edge flight products built to thrive in extreme environments. Be at the forefront of groundbreaking projects, from advanced satellite communications to bold space exploration ventures. Your expertise will directly power vital missions like the Wideband Global SATCOM (WGS) system—a high-capacity satellite network essential to the U.S. Department of Defense—and numerous other space-based innovations shaping the future of aerospace exploration.

Position Responsibilities

  • Lead the full lifecycle development of Special Test Equipment (STE) for power, digital, RF, and mixed signal systems used in space applications: architecture, detailed circuit design, prototyping, integration, verification, and delivery.

  • Be hands on: perform and review detailed circuit designs (power supplies, MCUs, FPGAs, memory/logic, RF front ends, filters, amplifiers, mixers) and implement prototypes and test harnesses.

  • Develop models and analysis to predict and validate system performance using SPICE, MATLAB/Simulink, ADS, or equivalent tools.

  • Design, develop, and validate automated test software and data acquisition systems using LabVIEW, TestStand, Python, C#, or equivalent.

  • Own program planning and execution for assigned test system projects: create and maintain schedules, define milestones, allocate resources, estimate hours and budgets, and manage change.

  • Provide regular, clear program status reporting to stakeholders: progress vs. plan, technical status, schedule and budget variance, risks, mitigations, and decision points.

  • Drive design reviews, design controls, configuration management, and verification / qualification test plans to meet space qualification requirements.

  • Troubleshoot anomalies during integration, environmental testing, and production; lead corrective actions and root cause analysis.

  • Define procurement needs and recommend test equipment purchases to meet technical and programmatic objectives.

  • Lead, mentor, and develop engineers and technicians; assign tasks, review work, and foster a collaborative, accountable team culture.

  • Support proposal preparation and capture activities with technical scope, cost, schedule estimates, and risk analyses.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)

  • This position requires the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. top secret/SCI clearance Post Start is required.

  • 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience)

  • 5+ years of experience in digital, power or RF Test Systems

  • Availability to travel up to 10% of the time, domestically depending on business needs

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)

  • Software coding experience using LabView, Test Stand, C/C#, Python, FPGA Verilog/VHDL, and/or MATLAB Signal

  • Experience using Electrical Design Automation (EDA) Tools such as (e.g. OrCAD, Mentor Graphics, Altium, PSPICE) to perform schematic capture, PCB design/layout, and circuit simulation

  • Knowledge and experience in control, analog, digital, or power supply circuit design

  • Experience designing RF/Mixed Signal circuits and systems: In-depth knowledge and experience in designing RF and mixed-signal circuits, considering factors such as signal integrity, noise, and interference

  • Experience with RF measurements; proficiency in RF measurement techniques including intermodulation distortion, phase noise, and spurious measurements. Familiarity with S-parameters is highly beneficial

  • Proficiency in RF/Mixed Signal simulation software: Proficiency in using RF/mixed-signal simulation software like Keysight's Advanced Design System (ADS) or similar

  • Familiarity with RF/Mixed Signal Test Equipment; experience using RF/mixed-signal test equipment such as network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, and mixed-signal oscilloscopes
