Job Description

Are you an experienced engineer with a passion for test development, automation, and bringing innovative products into volume production? Do you enjoy solving complex technical challenges while working closely with development, manufacturing, and cross-functional teams?

At Coherent, we're looking for a Senior Test Engineer to join our Product Development Test Team. In this role, you'll help develop and optimize the test solutions that enable our next generation of photonic and optoelectronic products, ensuring they can be efficiently characterized, verified, and scaled into production.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to take the next step in their career and have a real impact on both product design and manufacturing success.

What You'll Do

As a Senior Test Engineer, you'll play a key role throughout the product development lifecycle, from concept and design through validation and production release.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Designing and developing test setups, including hardware, instrumentation, automation, and measurement systems.
  • Collaborating with development teams to ensure products are designed with testability and manufacturability in mind.
  • Driving characterization and verification activities for new optical and electronic products.
  • Planning and coordinating project-related test activities throughout product development.
  • Participating in requirement reviews and contributing to product specifications.
  • Supporting the transition of products from development into volume manufacturing.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve test efficiency, reduce test times, and increase production robustness.
  • Supporting new site deployments and global manufacturing initiatives.
  • Creating and maintaining technical documentation for test setups and equipment.
  • Sharing knowledge and collaborating with colleagues across engineering, development, and manufacturing teams.
  • Representing the Product Development Test Team in cross-functional projects and technical discussions.

Who You Are

We're looking for someone who combines strong technical expertise with a practical, production-oriented mindset.

You are likely someone who:

  • Has substantial experience working with test systems and automation.
  • Understands the realities of manufacturing and volume production, not just research environments.
  • Is curious, eager to learn, and comfortable exploring new technical areas.
  • Enjoys collaborating, brainstorming ideas, and solving problems together with colleagues.
  • Communicates effectively with both technical teams and internal customers.
  • Takes ownership and drives improvements from idea through implementation.
  • Sees opportunities to influence product design to make testing more reliable, scalable, and efficient.

Qualifications

Required

  • MSc or PhD in Engineering Physics, Electronics, Optoelectronics, or a related technical field.
  • Several years of industry experience in a relevant engineering role.
  • Experience with:
    • Test automation
    • Laboratory instrumentation and measurement systems
    • Optoelectronic and/or electronic device characterization
    • Statistical analysis and data interpretation

Meritorious

  • Experience supporting products in volume manufacturing environments.
  • Experience developing production test solutions.
  • Knowledge of photonics, optical communications, or semiconductor technologies.
  • Swedish language skills.
