Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated Senior Telecoms (CER) Engineer who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide range of tasks. The position is based in Brisbane, Australia

Key responsibilities:

The Senior Telecom (CER) Engineer will be responsible for the design, testing, integration, and commissioning of Communications Equipment Rooms (CERs) and associated telecommunications infrastructure for rail projects.

The role will primarily focus on CER design activities, including development and review of:

  • rack layouts

  • cable schedules

  • power distribution and battery system arrangements

  • equipment integration and interface requirements

The role will also support testing and commissioning activities to ensure CERs and associated telecoms systems are delivered in accordance with approved designs, technical standards, and project requirements.

Working as part of the Telecommunications Engineering Design and Delivery Team, the role will support the successful integration of telecommunications systems across equipment rooms, wayside sites, and associated project interfaces.

Key knowledge and experience:

  • Minimum 10+ years’ experience in telecommunications infrastructure design, testing, and integration, preferably on large-scale Australian rail or infrastructure projects

  • Tertiary qualifications in Engineering or related discipline, suitable for full membership with Engineers Australia

Demonstrated experience in CER / equipment room design, including:

  • rack layouts

  • cable schedules

  • power systems and battery arrangements

  • equipment interfaces and integration

  • Experience in testing, commissioning, and integration of telecommunications systems and associated infrastructure

  • Strong ability to review and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical documentation

  • Experience working with radio, transmission, power, and telecoms infrastructure systems

  • Well-developed organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines

  • Collaborative communication style with the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
