About Downstream R&D: Downstream R&D is a team of over 300 technologists, chemists, scientists and engineers who provide pioneering solutions to support bp’s Fuels, Refining, Bioenergy and Hydrogen businesses. We also support the Technology group through Innovation Management, Modelling, Digital Science and our academic research programmes. Please note that roles based out of SJS or Sunbury will move to Timber Square, Southwark, from Q4 2027.
The Refining and Advanced Fuels Technology (R&AFT) team sits in the Downstream R&D group. The team consists of over 150 people who work closely with the business groups to assure the quality of our fuels along the whole of the Fuels Supply Chain - from our Refineries and 3rd party suppliers to our Mobility and Convenience businesses. The R&AFT team also develop differentiated fuels products for retail customers and deploy these into global markets. The range of fuel products is evolving as part of the energy transition, with a growing number of bio-based fuel offers. The R&AFT team run technical programs to understand and mitigate the risk of processing biobased feedstocks in our refinery assets.
You will sit within our Marketing Technology and ESA Fuels team, developing and deploying new fuel claims and products for global markets.

Future Location Notice: This role will start in Sunbury, London. bp has announced a planned office move to Timber Square, London, with all positions currently advertised in Sunbury, including this one, expected to relocate around Q4 2027-Q1 2028.
