Senior Technician, Utilities

Location: Belvidere, NJ

12 – Hour Rotating Shifts

As a Senior Technician, you will be responsible for producing quality utilities for the site. Operates a combined cycle cogeneration plant, air compressors, chillers, and cooling towers. Operates both a process potable water plant and a wastewater treatment plant according to the New Jersey Clean Water Act. Operates and troubleshoots plant equipment and related systems in accordance with Key Performance Measure, Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), safety/regulatory requirements, and divisional goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operates and monitors Utilities equipment (boiler, chillers, compressors, cooling towers) in the field and from the DCS including troubleshooting process and equipment problems, making necessary adjustments, optimizing process parameters, performing sampling, and testing as required.
  • Maintains equipment through assisting day shift technicians with coordinating and prioritizing maintenance needs with production needs, permit writing for maintenance PMs, general housekeeping/maintenance of process areas (minor repairs, painting, cleaning, etc.), and forklift operation for loading/unloading.
  • Record, track, maintain, and analyze all process data to ensure the utility operations is operating safely and within the limits of our permits to operate. Interpret operating and equipment data through data gathering and or monitoring and take action to bring process back under control and within parameters
  • Actively seeks continuous improvement opportunities within the DICI mindset and behaviors.
  • Participates in SHE cultures and displays and promotes positive SHE mindset and behaviors in performing all tasks. Including use of proper personal protective equipment and appropriate safety tools, writing and executing work permits and energy control procedures, keeping area and equipment operate at the highest safety levels; ensures that all people in the area comply to safety directives and keep the area neat and clean.
  • Understands process safety standards and risks for equipment. Documents safety/environmental incidents and assists Department Management Staff with documentation and notification of appropriate personnel. Participates in HAZOP/Pre-Startup review teams as required.
  • Completes all required formal and computer-based training classes (e.g., safety, quality improvement, problem solving, MSDS, etc.). Supports Technical Staff in the development and/or delivery of training.
  • Additional responsibilities as defined and provided by leadership.

You Bring:

  • High School diploma required.
  • A NJ Blue Seal Engineer’s license and the appropriate water treatment and waste treatment license when required.
  • Minimum of 1 to 4 years of experience required in power and steam generation or equivalent.
  • Must be able to work a 12-hour rotating shift, 7AM-7PM and 7PM -7AM. Must be available to work weekends, overtime (including coverage and standby), and holidays as required. Must be able to cross train in primary craft
  • Good math, oral/written communication, interpersonal, time management, problem solving, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of personal/process control computers, cGMP, ISO, environmental, regulatory and safety compliance.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and coordinate multiple resources without direct supervision.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job including but not limited to maintenance of process equipment in shop floor situations.

The salary or hourly wage scale provided reflects the pay range dsm-firmenich expects to pay the successful candidate for the position. Individual pay offered will be based on the applicant’s job-related skills, experience, relevant education, or training, and primary work location. Hourly range: $28.00 - $42.00.
