The Opportunity

The Technician, Development Product Engineering (DPE), plays a vital hands-on role in supporting the development, characterization, and validation of Allegro MicroSystems' new integrated circuit (IC) products. This individual will work closely with Product Engineers and Design Engineers, executing test plans, collecting critical data, and troubleshooting at the hardware level. The DPE Technician is essential for accelerating our product development cycle and ensuring our innovative sensing and power solutions meet the highest standards of quality and performance.

What You Will Do

Product Testing & Characterization:

• Execute detailed test plans and characterization procedures on new ICs and evaluation boards using a variety of standard and specialized lab equipment.
• Perform hands-on electrical tests using oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, function generators, and data acquisition systems.
• Accurately collect, organize, and present test data to Product Engineers for analysis.

Hardware & Lab Support:

• Perform hands-on assembly, modification, and rework of prototype ICs and Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs), including fine-pitch soldering.
• Assist in setting up, calibrating, and maintaining development and characterization test platforms and equipment.
• Manage the inventory of electronic components, tools, and supplies required for development lab activities.

Troubleshooting & Debugging:

• Conduct initial troubleshooting and debugging of test setups, evaluation boards, and hardware to identify and isolate issues.
• Assist engineers in identifying the root cause of product performance anomalies or test failures.

Documentation & Reporting:

• Maintain meticulous and accurate records of test procedures, results, observations, and equipment settings.
• Provide clear and concise verbal and written updates on task status and technical findings to the engineering team.
• Assist in drafting and updating test instructions and basic technical documentation.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

• Work effectively within a cross-functional team, collaborating with Product Engineers, Design Engineers, and other technicians to meet project milestones.
• Adhere to all safety regulations and maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work environment in the lab.

Who You Are

• Education: Associate's degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related technical field is required.
• Experience:
  • Minimum of 2-5 years of hands-on experience as a Technician in a semiconductor, electronics, or similar high-tech product development environment.
  • Proven experience with IC testing, characterization, and hardware troubleshooting is essential.
• Technical Skills:
  • Proficiency in operating a wide range of electronic test equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, DMMs, power supplies, function generators).
  • Strong ability to read and interpret schematics, circuit diagrams, and technical specifications.
  • Skilled in fine-pitch soldering and rework on PCBs.
  • Familiarity with data acquisition systems and basic data organization using tools like Microsoft Excel.
  • Basic programming/scripting skills (e.g., LabVIEW, Python) for test automation are a plus.
• Soft Skills:
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Proactive, self-motivated, and eager to learn new technologies and processes.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
