Job Description

We’re looking for a Senior Technical Specialist – Voice Core IME to join our Integration & Maintenance Engineering team in Sydney, where you’ll provide deep technical leadership across our Fixed Voice Core platforms and support critical customer services, including Services Australia.

Your day in the life of a Senior Technical Specialist at Optus

In this senior technical role, you’ll operate as a subject matter expert and trusted technical leader across Fixed Voice Core platforms. You’ll work with a high degree of autonomy while collaborating closely with engineering, operations, architecture, vendors and customers.

  • Acting as the Subject Matter Expert for Fixed Voice Core, including fixed voice access and interconnect services
  • Providing Tier 3 technical support, fault analysis, troubleshooting and restoration across complex voice platforms
  • Owning service and platform performance, including proactive monitoring, optimisation and remediation
  • Leading software and hardware upgrades, testing, and production network cutovers with minimal customer impact
  • Supporting new product testing and integration, including vendor management and defect resolution
  • Analysing network performance metrics, defining KPIs and delivering optimisation recommendations
  • Developing and maintaining high‑quality engineering design, testing and operational documentation
  • Providing technical leadership, coaching and mentoring to engineers and operational teams
  • Participating in on‑call, after‑hours and weekend support as required

What you bring

To succeed in this role, you’ll bring strong depth and breadth of telecommunications experience, combined with excellent stakeholder engagement and leadership capability.

  • Australian Citizenship – essential for security clearance purposes
  • A degree in Telecommunications Engineering, IT, Computer Science, or a related discipline
  • Extensive experience in telecommunications, with strong exposure to Fixed Voice and IP‑based networks
  • In‑depth experience with Fixed Voice Core platforms and SIP signalling, tracing and performance analysis
  • Experience working in large‑scale network environments and telecommunications operations
  • Strong fault management experience, including complex and long‑duration incidents
  • A solid background in testing, proof of concept and platform integration
  • The ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to senior stakeholders, including VP level
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving and decision‑making skills
