Job Description

Are you passionate about translating real plant operating conditions into outstanding biotechnology performance in ethanol fermentation?

You will be part of the Technical Service team at our H&B team, working in close collaboration with Sales, Business Development, and Applications to deliver hands‑on, high‑impact technical support to ethanol producers across LATAM South.

Where You’ll Make a Difference

In this role, you will provide advanced technical service and process consultancy to customers in the ethanol industry, with a strong focus on how plants are operated to enable optimal enzyme, yeast, and microbiology performance.

You will act as a trusted technical partner throughout the full operational lifecycle — from start‑ups and commissioning to steady‑state operations, expansions, and process changes — ensuring operating conditions remain aligned with biotechnology performance windows.

Key areas where you will create impact include:

  • Leading technical diagnostics and operational process consultancy in starch‑to‑ethanol processes, including liquefaction, saccharification, and fermentation performance under real operating conditions

  • Optimizing enzyme and yeast performance by aligning operating practices with biological requirements

  • Assessing microbiological risks and supporting contamination mitigation strategies

  • Improving fermentation stability, yield, and productivity through operational adjustments

  • Performing root cause analysis of operational deviations impacting biotechnology performance, with focus on operations rather than equipment design

You will also play a critical role during:

  • New ethanol plant start‑ups and commissioning phases

  • Capacity expansions, debottlenecking initiatives, and operational ramp‑ups

  • Feedstock changes, process transitions, and shifts in operating strategies

By applying your engineering background, you will translate plant constraints into clear, actionable operating recommendations, acting as a bridge between process reality and biotechnology performance — without acting as a plant design authority.

What Makes You the Right Fit

You bring a strong combination of engineering expertise, field experience, and operational mindset, allowing you to turn complex plant conditions into practical solutions.

You have:

  • A degree in Engineering (Chemical, Biological, Biochemical, or related disciplines)

  • Experience working in ethanol plants and industrial fermentation environments

  • Strong exposure to plant operations, start‑ups, commissioning, and troubleshooting

  • Solid understanding of fermentation processes, microbiology, enzymes, and yeasts

  • The ability to connect operating conditions with biotechnology performance and limits

  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and root cause analysis skills

  • Clear communication skills, from shop‑floor discussions to executive‑level conversations

  • A hands‑on, pragmatic, and customer‑oriented approach

How You Would Stand Out

You will stand out in this role if you:

  • Translate technical results into measurable business impact, including ethanol yield, productivity, process robustness, microbiological control, and cost efficiency

  • Structure and execute technical action plans with defined KPIs and validate results in the field

  • Produce clear, decision‑oriented deliverables such as performance reports, start‑up summaries, troubleshooting analyses, and executive insights

  • Act as a strong technical partner to Sales and Business Development by supporting customer engagements, providing competitive technical assessments, and enabling value‑based selling

  • Continuously build technical capability by sharing knowledge with customers and internal teams on fermentation fundamentals, enzyme and yeast behavior, and best operational practices

Why Choose Us

At IFF, you will:

  • Work at the intersection of engineering, biotechnology, and real‑world plant operations

  • Have a strong field presence and build long‑term relationships with ethanol producers across LATAM South

  • Be recognized as a trusted problem solver and technical partner by operators, engineers, and plant leadership

  • Collaborate in a cross‑functional, international environment with high technical credibility

  • Contribute directly to customer success through hands‑on execution and measurable results
