Job Description

This role is responsible for overseeing the technical review, coordination, and approval of all electrical shop drawings and material submittals to ensure compliance with design intent, codes, and standards. The position requires close collaboration with contractors, consultants, and other disciplines to resolve interface clashes and maintain accurate documentation throughout the project lifecycle.

Shop Drawing & Submittal Management:

  • Lead the detailed technical review of all electrical shop drawings submitted by the contractor, including single-line diagrams (SLDs), panel schedules, cable containment layouts, lighting and power layouts, wiring schematics, and ELV system architectures.
  • Meticulously check shop drawings against design drawings and specifications to ensure complete compliance with the design intent, equipment ratings, codes, and standards.
  • Manage the formal review and approval process for all electrical material submittals, including datasheets for switchgear, transformers, generators, cables, light fittings, and all ELV system components.
  • Lead the coordination of electrical shop drawings with architectural (e.g., reflected ceiling plans, furniture layouts) and mechanical/structural (e.g., plant room layouts, penetrations) submissions to proactively identify and resolve all interface clashes.

Technical Coordination & Information Control:

  • Manage the Request for Information (RFI) process for all electrical matters. Ensure RFIs from the contractor are clear, coordinate with the design consultants for responses, and ensure timely resolution and distribution.
  • Act as the primary technical interface for the contractor's technical team on all electrical matters.
  • Review and provide expert commentary on contractor-proposed Method Statements and Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) for critical electrical installations and commissioning activities.
  • Review contractor-submitted electrical calculations (e.g., cable sizing, voltage drop) to verify compliance with the design.

Documentation & Reporting:

  • Maintain an organized and up-to-date register of all electrical drawings, specifications, shop drawings, RFIs, and material submittals.
  • Ensure that the site construction team is always working with the latest, fully coordinated, and approved-for-construction versions of all electrical documents.
  • Assist in the compilation of the final as-built drawings and records, ensuring they accurately reflect all electrical changes and deviations

Requirements

Skills and Experience:

  • Education: A bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an internationally recognized university. A master's degree and/or Professional Chartership (CEng, P.E., or equivalent) is essential.
  • Experience: A minimum of 15+ years of progressive, post-graduate experience in the design of electrical building services for large-scale projects.
  • Industry Background: Must have extensive experience working in a senior role at a leading international electrical or MEP design consultancy firm. Experience working on the client/developer side is a significant advantage.
  • International Exposure: Demonstrable, hands-on international project experience is essential.
  • Project Scope: Proven experience in the detailed design and technical oversight of electrical systems for complex projects including high-rise mixed-use buildings, luxury hotels, data centres, and Grade A offices. Expertise in MV/LV distribution, standby power systems, and complex life safety systems is critical.
  • Software Proficiency: High proficiency in electrical design and modeling software (e.g., ETAP, Amtech, DIALux, Revit MEP) is required to effectively review and critique consultant designs.
